Robben Ford show

Saw Robben Ford here in Syr last night. Awesome!!! Smallish club,a dump but good acoustics. Probably 100 people!

Just Robben, drums and bass. White tele, Dumble, modded LP goldtop and a Super Reverb for backup(?).

Needless to say, he was fantastic. He makes the I, IV,V so musical. Sophisticated, yet so funky and bluesy. I've seen him a couple of times before. My only criticism used to be his singing voice, it seemed high and reedy, but now hearing him up close and personal, I'm now a fan!

I feel lucky he came to our town. Thanks to Robben and the band! Come back soon!

Mike

I've seen Robben a few times here in NYC. Always a great show.

Nice! I'm jealous. I wish he'd come to Atlanta (with his Tele)!

He's here tomorrow night closing a Jazz festival on the Green in Morristown. We've seem him many times in recent years, here in Jersey, BB King's Times Square, and small clubs in the city like the Cutting Room and the Iridium. Renegade Creation is a great project and their second album, Bullet, was released in June. Good record.

Robben can be a bit twitchy on stage. He gets really annoyed when people take his picture up close, flash or not. I wish people wouldn't do that. Ford really hates it.

His vocals are stronger since the first Paris DVD and the subsequent Truth album. Great player. My wife and I catch him whenever we can.

The album he made with the Yellow Jackets is a masterpiece

Its virtuoso, minimalistic, musical. Check out that album

He's not been for a couple of years, but was here from 1990 to 2009 touring every year almost...seen him 40 times I'd guess atleast.

Saw him at the Turning Point in New York with Roscoe Beck back in the 80's. Remarkable player.

I want to see Robben Ford do a live off the cuff gig with jimmy Herring
It could be deadly lethal to be a guitar fan in the audience, tone slicing heads completely off after vision melted by trying to watch fingers fly on fretboards smoking vapor trails......too heavy, if Oteil on Bass, Jeff Sipe on drums, whoa

Great player - especially when he plays the Tele through his Deluxe.

Dumble tone ? Sometimes. But - sometimes a Dumble sound like an amp through a big rack.

Anyway - would love to see him head into the studio with Joe Henry producing.

Strip any of the fusion out of there and get him some great songs.

I think RF could basically play anything you threw at him.

My family and I brought the lawn chairs and caught Robben on the Morristown Green last night. He headlined the Morristown Jazz and Blues Festival. Toss Panos on drums and Andy Hess on bass. He's used that lineup, on and off with Hess, for the past few years.

It was a spectacular night. Great weather. Clear sky and mid-sixties F by the time the show ended at 10 pm, just shy of a couple of hours after it began. Robben was on his game. Vocals were full and strong and his playing was great, as always.

He featured a couple of tunes from the new Renegade Creation album and a couple from a forthcoming solo release that’s due in a couple of months. The new stuff sounds like a fresh take on Blues cliché, with Robben recalling classic lyrics (“squeeze my lemon…” “…with my rider by my side.” Etc.) Interspersed with his own (“I’m gonna build me a bird’s nest, right in the middle of your town”), while ripping out classic licks within his own runs and between his trademark chords.

My wife took a pretty good shot of him from our family’s spot on the lawn about thirty feet back. Once again Robben was distracted, numerous times, by folks who insist on pressing themselves against the stage while they shoot video. I wish Ford would pay some kid twenty bucks to clear those folks out. Instead he becomes distracted and attempts to wave them off himself. That’s the only drag. Really good show.
