NGD - CV 50s
Sorry about the poor phone pic.
Got her today, after trying a few in various shops. I had a 52 AVRI that I never used, eventually sold it yesterday and got this. The missus gets a new handbag with the money left from the trade so everybody's a winner! A well-made guitar, no doubt about it. Nice straight, tight grain in the pine body and very well executed poly finish, which I prefer to nitro (I also own a 2007 Baja and '88 Am. Std). Nice shape neck, very similar to the Am. Std., perhaps a touch fatter (or perhaps not It comes with 9s, so I've just put on 10s as on all my Teles and it's going to need some setting up, which I'll do over the week. I'm really stoked about the overall quality and features, it also sounds just like a Tele should and really speaks to me. Of course, once it's due for a fret level and crown, I might also get the jack, pots and switch changed, we'll see. So far, a really cool guitar.

Nice. I did the same thing - sold my 52 AVRI and bought a used one of these. Loved my '52 but it wasn't getting used because I babied it. I have two little kids around and kept it in its case. I leave this one out and don't worry about. Problem solved - and I paid the rent with the difference.

LMAO! I'd say not or he wouldn't have commented. One of the things I enjoy about being single again is that there are now 4 Tele's in my house and no handbags vs the old days when it was 4 handbags and no Teles.

I love the CV 50's for lots of reasons, mostly the sound, but having a Tele laying around that you don't mind getting dinged up is a definite plus. Teles were made to be worked hard, like a mule.

Ok, update and bump after an initial setup session.
I'm liking this guitar more and more. After straightening the neck bow, lowering the saddles to my liking and intonating, I've played it an hour or so unplugged and so far it stands up easily to my Baja and my Am. Std., which have been both professionally set up, including fret levels and new nuts. A thing that I noticed is that the nut is really well executed and the fretwork is up to snuff, which I didn't really expect on such an inexpensive instrument. Next step, an amplified workout to get pickup height nailed. If it keeps going as well as it has, I will be utterly blown away. Here's hoping!

I had one of those. The neck was so thin, I wanted to punch it in the face. I ended up buying an aftermarket neck that cost more than I paid for the CV50s. Then I ended up buying a Baja body... So, I guess it's really not the same guitar anymore.
If you can tolerate the neck, it's a nice little guitar for the money. |

Funny thing about thin necks, some love them some hate them, some don't mind. I love a thin neck. I was looking at Jeff Becks 57 Esquire at London's, Hard Rock vault, amazing guitar, while the guide was looking away I just had to try the neck. It felt smaller than my CV. Jimmy Page had borrowed it and carved Jeff into the back. While I was there I took a good look at Duane Allman's 54 strat, again incredible, couldnt try it though it was in a case!
