Finally Finished! NGD! Burst to Surf
Hey everyone! I'm proud to announce, after a month and a half of work and waiting my Telecaster is finally finished!
It started as a MIM Standard in Sunburst. I sanded the poly finish off but kept the Sunburst scheme because many years from now when this nitro and paint have been played away, it's going to be Surf Green over Sunburst, which I think is what the kids today call "the business". Case in point: ![]() Anyway, ReRanch Surf Green with Nitrocellulose finish for the body. ColorTone Vintage Amber stained neck, new waterslide decal, then about 10 coats of Tru-Oil on the neck/fretboard. The pictures show reflections from light but it's actually a solid/even stain. I'll probably knock down the Tru-Oil gloss a bit. 3-Ply Mint Green pickguard. Ice-cold! Away with that massive 6-saddle bridge! Fender (Pat Pending) bridge plate with Wilkinson Compensated brass saddles. Vintage style tuners. 4-way switch (with .45 caliber bullet casing for funsies). I knocked down the chrome everywhere with muriatic acid and 1000 grit sand paper. Fender 51' Nocaster pickups on the way to replace the Tonerider Hot Classics I originally thought I'd like. Here we go! Before: ![]() ![]() ![]() After: ![]() ![]() ![]()

That neck tint came out fantastic. I like that you have a slowcooker relic thing going on with the sunburst, cool idea.

Thanks everyone! This was a great learning experience as this is the first of any kind of guitar refinish I've ever attemped!
Yep, born in 97'! I was pretty surprised to see such wear as well. |

That looks terrific. There are things that I'd like to do to some of my guitars, but I'm too chicken to even attempt them. I admire people who have the guts to take a project like this on. Love the colour! Great job!
