Just Play your Tele!!
For the first time in way too long, I just plugged my American Deluxe Tele into my silverface twin, via full drive II pedal, cranked it and played - bridge pickup only. Man...why don't i do this every day!????!!! Just plug in, turn up and play!!
I guess this might belong on any forum I guess...but it's the Tele that made it work. |

Not really a revelation I guess, just a refresher... it's nice and easy to plug in a good simple guitar/amp combo and play - need to do it more! |

I do agree though. When I actually muster the strength to pull out my Hot Rod Deville 410, it's a thing of beauty! And the pedal board tends to be a non issue. Just crank it up and let 'er rip! |

Sometimes when I question my pick-ups or start GASing over the fancier OD pedals, I have to ask myself, "Gringo, when was the last time you cranked this sucker up?". I find that playing an amp at the volume at which it's designed to be played really puts my tone into perspective. My Bassman on 3 is fine and all, but when I get it to 5 or 6 (where I play with my band), it's a revelation. With my tweed Champ on 4, it's ok for cleans and good with pedals, but when I crank that bastard up and use my guitar for dynamics of clean and filth, my musical world opens back up.
Even if you play every day, you have to dial the amp to its sweet spot every now and then just to keep yourself grounded... AND so the amp doesn't feel neglected and murder you in your sleep.

This is not a joke, it happens. It's kinda like that movie Misery, if Kathy Bates was powered by 6L6 tubes. Your last moments could be full of the claw side of a hammer and the sound of 60 cycle hum... there's a reason amp components store a charge.

I agree! Sometimes its nice to just get my old black face deluxe or my old traynor ygm3 and a ts9 and rip it up. Leave the pedal board and all that knob tweeking behind .

Pedals just interrupt a guitar's feng shui! Although I did used to run a couple (boost/delay) in the old days gigging. Nowadays it's heaven with no pedals -- and not even any tubes! (Pathfinder 15R with LED mod=awesomeness)
