Ice Blue Metallic vs. Lake Placid Blue?
Life's many mysteries, Why Mosquitos exist.... what happens after you die... What color is Chrissie Hynde's Telecaster?
This has been bugging me since I picked up a Tele 3 years ago. Can anyone help me out by showing off Some Lake Placid and Ice Blue Teles under different lights? I want to have this mystery solved! Hope you guys can help me with my Blue Tele Blues These are all the same guitar, mind you.

This will probably help you as much as anything. This is a Fender Color Chart showing some of the shades of blue finishes they have used over the years.
http://www.fender.com/support/colorc...=blue&color=59 The Ice Blue Metallic has a softer look. Almost a combo between a blue and silver with a bit of lavender mixed together. LPB is a deeper blue although I've seen many variations on that color over the years. The current ones seem to be a more intense brighter blue similar to the blue transparent but in an opaque finish whereas the 95 MIM I have and my old 66 Jazz Bass had a softer silver/blue slant to them. To me this is a more accurate example of the LPB used in the late 50's and early 60's by the auto industry. The Tele in the top photo in your post is Ice Blue Metallic and the Tele Chrissie Hynde is playing in the middle pic also appears to be IBM. But the Tele in the lower pic sure looks more like LPB although it may be just the lighting. What makes you think they're all the same guitar? Anyway, you can clearly see the difference between those two colors and the others on this color chart.

The Six Saddle Bridge. Only guitar in her arsenal that has the 6 Saddles with an Ashtray, and the "FENDER" on it, and it's on the "Get Close" Album cover.

Then in those pics they must all be IBM. You can see by the Fender Color Chart that there's a pretty big difference in the two. Some of the other blues are quite a bit closer to each other.

For your information TDPIers there is an exact LPB 1962, same as hers, that I've been chasing and would willingly buy, in our city, Adelaide. It's value 3 years ago was $42,000 AUD. It is currently not for sale.

OP if you say that the only one of that type she's ever played then it's LPB but the guitar in the top picture isn't. That's Ice Blue Metallic. Even in that light I'd bet on it.

Wow you sound sure.... this is some news! Now that I think of it, the bottom could be different because I don't know anything about the 86-87 years, like what guitars she had on deck... All ths time, I was soaking up the idea that this "One guitar" had survived all the years with her! Kinda kills the idea of that guitar being a "Rock and roll treasure" when it's actually two. Now I gotta find pictures! Thanks!

But I do know for a fact that the middle and top ones are the same! And I really prefer those two more, so thanks!

I wouldn't worry about it. Go for Sonic or Daphne and then you have a tough choice. The IBM and LPB are not that appealing to me. Now the "yellowed" one above is cool. JMHO that has no real value, especially in this post, but I did her anyway.
