I've only played one, a hi dollar thing with gorgeous red paisley-flames on a gloss black body and three single coils, configured like a strat. The neck had so much lacquer on it that I could barely play the thing, it was so slick. Fabulous guitar; however, just not for me.
I wanted to like it, as he's one of my guitar heros. |

Sounds like you played the American one. This is the MIM one. I really like the American one but would like it more with just the 2 single coils. I have had this guitar for about 2 years now. Nothin else I pick up feels right anymore. I just wanted to see some other opinions on it. Some of my friends have played it at gigs and really liked it. Even the guy that will only play American fenders liked it.

I have an earlier one, '96 I think that I bought used as I've come to appreciate bigger than standard neck profiles and the yellow color just tripped my trigger. It's a little on the heavy side and has some fretwear down by the nut but the neck is wonderful and the pickups have plenty of twang and crunch. I did change to a three saddle bridge with the $15.00 Fender bridge plate. I'd never sell it.

+ nice neck profile, great pickups, truss rod adjustment at the nut
- six saddle bridge Based on the feature set, it seems like a Tele version of my Jimmie Vaughn Strat.

I have one and after replacing the six-saddle bridge with a three-saddle job, it is a great guitar. I had rattle issues with the six-saddle.
The neck itself is worth it. The U-shape is just about perfect for me. The pickups, Texas Specials, are great. Overall, a great Tele that, if you can find one, is usually a very good deal. It's among my favorite Teles. Very good guitar that flew under the radar. Easily, in my book, one of the best MIM Teles ever and ranks up there with some of the best Teles I've played. As you can tell, I love this sucker. |

I've had one for 7 years. It's a great guitar. The only changes I have made were a 3 saddle bridge and a 4 way pickup switch to take advantage of the RWRP neck pickup.

From the specs, it sure looks like a nice model (fat neck, good pickups, nice color IMO), but I've yet to see one for real! They are pretty rare, heh?
As for the bridge, I have one Tele (Albert Collins) equipped with such a vintage 6-saddles and I must say that I don't have any problem with it. Once setup to my liking, the only thing I had to do was to put a little drop of clear nail varnish on each one of the height-adjustment screws... Easy, unexpensive, reversible... and zero stability/rattling problems. They just work fine IMO. |
