vintage tele

Greetings all from a brand new member!

Way back around 1969 or 1970 I bought a Fender Telecaster with a Bigsby Vibrato that was Paisley.

I sold it around 1980.

If I had not been so stupid, and kept it, what would it be worth today?

It was in excellent condition.

I don't know, but I can identify with the feeling! I had a couple of telecasters in the early 1970's and sold them a few years later. One of them was a thinline, and I recently saw one in fair condition advertised for something like $3800. IIRC, I paid about $350 when it was new....

Not sure, but 1969 pink paisleys are listed at $15,000 on Ebait...

Yeah Guys,

But I can't find the worth of one that is a '69, is red paisley, and has a Bigsby vibrato bar.

Anybody?

Did I let go a FORTUNE in 1980?

When you find out, don't forget to deduct the amount you were paid when you sold it.

Maybe you did, its moot now. Hell we all got rid of guitars we should have kept or should have bought. I know I did. That said your '69 could have weighed a ton and sounded like crap too.

Also consider that $1 in 1970 had the same buying power as about $6 today. Also if you invested the money you got from the 1980 sale, how much would that be worth today?

kharrison,

It had great sound to my memory; I loved it, but kids came, night work came, and money-need came.

and Boyd . . . excellent point.

But, I still want to know what it would go for today.

About 6 or 7 years ago my oldest son bought me a Mexican Tele for Christmas!

White . . . I put vintage fender telecaster pickups in it and a turtle shell pickguard and bought a Roland Cube.

If nothing else, at least I still have a Telecaster that sounds great.

My guess is that it would be in the same area of the 1969 paisleys or other Fenders that are listed now- they are CBS models so they don't command the pre-CBS "Holy Grail" prices that someone might hope for- that's just the market- I remember the mid-seventies after the CBS buyout- you could pick up the late sixties and early seventies CBS models for MIM prices(relatively)- many of us saw that happening and that the pre-CBS guitars were the ones to have, but didn't have the money to buy them at the time and thought the CBS models were inferior so we didn't think about keeping them forever. That's always the way its been though, eh?
