However, some just want "nice" stuff on their guitar… if that's the case, there are many really nice bridges ranging from around 50 bux to as much as you wanna spend…. all of them will offer you a change in sound… there is no way to predict what any one of them will sound like on your guitar until it's done… then… ya might not like it at all… Change is just change…. it can land on any one of 3 situations… Good, Bad, Mehhh. There are no guarantees... Ron Kirn

I'm happy with a vintage, 3 uncompensated brass saddle bridge, but then again, I'm also happy setting my intonation by ear.
Setting aside the intonation issue, I don't think that changing bridges will necessarily result in an upgrade. The most likely result is that even if there is a audible change, it will be very minor (like tweaking a knob a bit, so that you have to listen closely to hear it) and might not actually be an improvement. Of course, if you believe that changing a certain guitar component will produce a new and improved sound, you'll probably hear it, even if you don't really hear it. Either you know exactly what I'm trying to say here, or you have no idea at all.

WDMusic has a decent 3 barrell compensated ashtray bridge.

The Vintage, cheapo, ugly, thin piece-o-crap Bridge Plate that Fender has been putting on the Telecaster since 1951, continues to be the "Best Value" for building the perfect Telecaster sound. This is the sound that we ALL fell in love with and continue to chase every day. This Plate is used as standard on current guitar models that appear to have the highest "GAS" factor, including the Baja and the '52 reissue. After you have that, you can try "Compensated" Brass Saddles or Steel Saddles or even a mixture of the two metals, to fine-tune the sound to your taste.
The Glendales are terrific Saddles and worth every penny that Dale asks for them, But a great Tele mojo can also be achieved with the cheaper Brass Comp Saddles that are widely available, when applied to that Vintage style Fender "Pat.Pend." Bridge Plate. Just don't go crazy, thinking that more money spent means better Tele Tone!! |

I think the small operation that Leo had and the multinational behemoth that Fender has become cannot be compared. Again, this is my mostly uninformed opinion.

The MIM guitars, such as the Baja, use an import Pat Pend plate. The 52RI uses a US made Pat Pend plate. Not that there's much to chose between them in quality! |

Great advice here but then the OP never even said what he's upgrading from. Might be nice if he added that little bit if info.
