Meet another new old Tele - 68 'burst * UPDATED w/PICS *
Of course I intended to introduce her via the normal detailed pics, but haven't got around to it. Until then, here's a very cool, recently acquired 1968 Sunburst:

Aden,
Yes, original finish. Kingpin, Hate to pick favorites, and my preferences seem to always be fluctuating. But, so far my vibe is that this may prove to be one of the best Teles. Probably the most played is the 54 LG-1, which along with a Tele or two is always out for the grabbing. Today I've been playing the 72 Thinline, and the 79 Strat (I'm about to swap it's VH Fralins for another slightly underwound set). thanks |

Okay Fuzz, just for you I put the micrometer to it. Averaged about 1.745 around the outside.
Since I'm sitting here playing the 72 Thinline, which has a natural poly finish, it averages about 1.855. Butterscotch 00 52RI which is also right here averages about 1.800. |

We're the same age--I'm a '68, too!
Very nice, Slack! A most righteous guitar!

Fuzz,
My two older Teles have caveats if compared - the 66 is stripped to the wood, and I can't with certainty say if the 67 is a refin or not. Here's an aside you'll appreciate though. Earlier this week with time to kill in Hollywood I did my occassional hanging out and bs'ing in the GC Vintage Room. I picked around unplugged on dozens of 50s, 60s, and 70s Teles. My absolute least favorites of this particular assortment were the 50s. There's a great 50s J-45 upstairs, BTW. |

THAT is an awesome guitar
I would debate, with myself, that this is my dream guitar.
Since I could never have my dream guitar, and you have it, then I will settle for my 97 burst bender. Please leave me in your will. Darrell Darrell

Yes, the pups are original. Bridge pup is dated "5-31-68". They have been wax potted at some point. The only really odd mod is all the wiring, including to the pups themselves (their leads replaced). This seems to correspond to the seller's informing me that he had the wiring 'upgraded' to cryogenically treated cloth wire. It does appear exactly like the Callaham stuff. The two pots were changed, apparently in the early 80s as they date 79 and 81. One pearloid fretboard dot is a replacement. Otherwise, refrets and the typical saddle swaps. It weighs 7-1/4 lbs, which is just about ideal to me (I consider the mid to upper 7s a Tele sweet spot). Balance and feel is great. I'm just about to take neck measurements. It's not a large neck, and the rosewood is beautiful. |
