It's official! I'm a Baja owner!! :-)
... or will she own me?
She just arrived, and I immediately fell in love! 1. The neck is a piece of art! Although I am used to short scales (epi g400), the neck felt like home! 2. She's BEAUTIFUL 3. She loves my Vox ac15c1... I hope in time she falls in love with me too. Of course, love is not perfect: 1. The noise is a tad annoying, but I'm used to humbuckers. I don't think it's a faulty grounding issue because the noise is consistent whatever metal part I touch (no difference). The S in the S1 switch should be standing for 'silencer'! 2. In terms of setup, it's pretty good as far as I can tell. The strings seem to nicely follow the radius. When checking intonation, everything is consistently slightly sharp, so I guess I could fix that easily by bringing the saddles a bit further back. There is a slight buzz on the low E string when played open. It sounds as an afterthought (not immediate). So it's not too bad, but I'll take my time exploring that because I don't want to change anything that could change the way it feels now. Anyway... I'll keep you up-to-date with any developments. Anything else you think I should check? I cannot think clearly now! Oh, the neck is a nice tight fit to the body. I'm curious to unscrew the neck and have a look, but I don't want to 'screw' the fit! ;-) |

Congratulations! My Baja's a keeper, feels rock solid but really responsive and lively. It did need a good set up though, intonation was way out when I got it.

He did it !!! :) Well done mate. Health to enjoy it and all that good stuff. I hope you find it as full of character as I do mine. Mine has one or two tiny inconsequential flaws and I don't give a damn because the feel and sound of the thing is just so damn right. Thru my DRRI it sounds awesome. BTW my Baja came fairly well set up as in correct neck relief, medium action height although the intonationnwas way off

Thanks guys!
I'm getting happier and happier! :-) It's my first tele, so it does take some getting used to, but the whole thing feels great! Unfortunately, photos may take a while because I do not have a camera. However, I'll compensate with a quite sound sample soon. |

I will not believe for a SECOND that you are a Baja owner until you show us photographic evidence.

Ok... here's a sound sample:
The backing track is just something I recorded really quickly with an Epi g400 (with silly digital effects -through a Boss ME-20 - apologies), and an Epi EB-3 (short scale). The lead guitar is of course the Baja! Everything is recorded into a Zoom HD16. I used Audacity to mix it all quick and dirty. The amp is a Vox ac15c1. I am using the top boost channel. It's relatively clean and extremely uncranked (I have neighbours!). Master volume and channel volume are at around 3. Bass and treble are at 12 o'clock and reverb at around 3. The Baja is at full volume and tone. Here are the pickup combinations: 0:00-1:36 : Both pickups in series (in phase) 1:40-3:12 : Both pickups in series (out of phase) 3:16-4:50 : Neck pickup 4:53-5:40 : Both pickups in parallel (in phase) 5:42-6:25 : Both pickups in parallel (out of phase) 6:30-end : Bridge pickup Here is the link: www.reverbnation.com/seasicksailor It's the 'Please ignore this' track. Remember that this is for tone demonstration... NOT technique. ;-) I don't mean to 'plug' my website... it's just the best way I know to upload a track. Let me know if you need more info or I have forgotten anything! |

... and here are some blurry photos. I had to use my phone, connect my phone to the laptop via bluetooth (took me a while to figure that out!), use a usb to transfer the photos to my internet-connected PC! Aaah... the things I do for you people! :-P
Just for company, you also see my EB-3 (LOVE IT!) used in the recording, and my g400 (also great LOVE - so different to the tele). Additionally, you see my hollowbody. She's a baton rouge guitar... lovely thing! :-) |

Ok, the previous recording was REALLY unfair to the guitar. In the recording "Please ignore (teletesting)" you can really hear it. The recording is BAD in terms of sound (just a mic at a distance while a backing track was playing in the stereo!). But the amp is substantially louder to drive those tubes. I think the difference is HUGE.
Same setup as before otherwise. The pickup changes happen every 24 bars. Both pickups in series (in phase) Both pickups in series (out of phase) Neck pickup Both pickups in parallel (in phase) Both pickups in parallel (out of phase) Bridge Back t neck (I'm getting very fond of this one!) For the first time, I also felt the need to play an electric with my fingers. No pick in the recording. Weird! I understand why people love the "finger-tone". Congratulations! I almost got one in a trade, but I was a day late. I'm still waiting for it. (Long story.)
Enjoy it. They sound and play wonderful!

Congrats!,... glad to hear you received the Baja and are impressed.
Yep as we discussed via PM, I love my newly acquired Baja. #1.5 coming in a fraction of a % behind my #1 RW50 Blonde. Both are nice examples of FMIC's recent successes. |
