picked up a tele... and its irritating

hi all, new here and hoping I'm posting in the correct area. I recently traded off my mim deluxe double fat strat for a tele as i had been craving for one. Little back history, I was spoiled when I was younger; played a 60's, maybe earlier, tele very often. The vintage tele i played was... god. It was all original, other than twisted tele neck, and jumbo frets.

Now onto my current situation. After a while of owning now, i dont really like the tone i get from the tele. It currently has a sd lil' 59 in the bridge, and a vintage stack neck. The neck pup is decent, but totally unbalanced from the bridge (i know i could help this by lowering). The bridge is also wired to a series switch, which helps some tonally, but still not what i am going for. Definitely want to put true singles in it, but I'm also on a budget... Due to frustration, I've been considering selling the tele and picking up one of the squier j mascis JMs (not because of the sig model, so much as the pups, personal attraction to JMs, and severe hatred of my tele's neck). I like the way the mascis JM sounds for sure, and i dont expect to get JM tones from a tele.

SO, what I'm more or less wondering, is what pups could i consider to get a vintage ish tele tone, or what pups may be nearly p90 ish tonally. I've been looking @ gfs' pups, mainly cause I am on such a budget. I've read, and heard decent things on many of their pups but never anything about their "professional series" 52's and 63's. However, I'm not locked in on those, and really just looking for suggestions. Thanks ahead of time for any info, and sorry for the long post

I got a USA 52 reissue bridge pup for my mim tele for about $38 shipped on ebay. Sounded great but didn't like the neck on the guitar. Still looking for a suitable neck but the pup is great for many styles

I put a set of dimarzio area t's in my partscaster and am really happy with the sound. I previously had a sd 59 hb in the neck and an American standard pup in the bridge. The dimarzios aren't too expensive and sound great.

The budget GFS pups are decent sounding for the price. I have a set they sound fine. Better yet would be the original vintage fender set.$78 at amazon.

The pickups you have on that Tele are not Telecaster pickups. Your guitar will not sound like a Tele, and apparently that's what you want. Good.

Best for the money are Fender Original Vintage ($115 retail, $90ish on Ebay). Very traditional sounding and well-made.

Other good ones (and there are plenty) will cost nearly double that. I've had Fralins, VooDoos, Suhrs and other boutique stuff, but for me the OVs have that Tele skronk and twang that I look for.

I put a set of OVs in my American Special and get a very nice vintage/bakersfield sound out of it now. I think I paid $68 on Amazon.

I recently put a pair of Golden Age Tele PUPs from Stewart MacDonald in a partscaster and really like them. They are very similar in tone the Fender CS Nocasters for a lot less cash (around $90 for the pair). Very authentic vintage Tele tone.

SD Vintage Stack that Matches your Neck Pickup is nice, sounds like a Tele, but quiet -not real pricey. I admit that I lean to the more rockin side of the tele, and am less concerned with pure tradition.

But if you hate the Neck - why spend the money. 59's in the Bridge have seen an uptick in popularity lately - I wouldn't do that, but I've seen a bunch of mentions recently. You should have no problems moving it if you don't like it.

The stock pups in my 62RI are awesome. The sound growly like a P-90. I find I can get close to the sounds of my parts Jazzmaster which has Lollar P-90s. Not that expensive either.

'nuff said. Original Vintage is...original vintage.

BUT, if I may add, as I'm surprised no one brought them up. Wilde Keystones. $64+shipping. This will make you forget GFS ever existed (sorry, GFS!) :)

I have the GFS Pro '63s and they are amazing!!!! Mine have a very full balsy vibe which is a nice departure from the more thin, trebly sounding pickups in my Am. Std. If you are looking for a thicker sound that is useful for blues and rock, I highly recommend them. I absolutely love my GFS Pro '63s.
