Wow some old school for the win. I love how a 50's styled strat and tele complement each other. Just a great tone, and I always thought the tele just plain has a better lead tone.

I remember seeing this performance on Lawrence Welk Show. I loved the tune and was excited to here them do it. I was always fascinated by the talent that Welk had on that show, and even though many performances were pretty square, I watched it all the time. Everyone else in my family showed no interest at all in the show.

Too Cool..the Tele looks a bit like one of those Mahogany-bodied ones, a few of which were made in the early/mid '60s..they had an odd sort of "liver" colour, not like any other shade of red available at the time.
Enough "cork-sniffing" :0)..great pickin', & that clip was shot the same year my #1 Tele was built..'66 was a good year ! Cheers for posting, Mark. Jeff. |

My step father watched that show every Saturday night when I was still at home in the late 50s/early 60s. I still go to youtube and bring up videos of Neal and Buddy. Check out Buddy's "Panhandle Rag" and the expression on Lawrence Welk's face as Buddy rips it up. Lawrence could NOT stand still.......
Great stuff, Mark.

My parents watched Lawrence Welk every week when I was first learning guitar. Rather than being POed about it not being rock and roll, I sat there with my guitar and learned a lot about music and guitar playing - a really good way to learn...
