NGD - Classic 60's
So I'm passing through a little town while on the road and stop in a local music store. There, sitting on the rack, is a Tele Classic 60's in CAR. The guy working tells me it's been sitting for a while, and he'll make me a good deal on it. I've been wanting one for a while, but God knows I didn't need a yet another guitar, much less another tele. He comes back with a price I simply couldn't turn down, so long story short, my road trip netted me a new axe!
Plays great, looks even better. Neck pickup is awesome. Bridge pup isn't bad, but knowing me, I'll swap that out. Took it to band practice last night, the real litmus test for me, and it was great! I really like this guitar! Interestingly, I went to peel the plastic off the pickguard, and half the finish came off with it. No biggie, I called Fender and they are sending me a new pick guard. But it got me thinking - how long has this thing been sitting there? So I looked it up. It'a a 2003 - 2004! No wonder the guy made me such a great deal. Anyway, I'll post pics when I can. NGD is always a good day. |

I believe there is some type of yellow "aging" finish on the pick guard. Not sure, but after sitting since 2003, that 8 years turned the plastic brittle and almost melded onto it. It came off in pieces, leaving an awful streaking and pitting on the plastic. When I called Fender, the guy wasn't surprised. He said that film is not intended to be long term, but since they don't instruct the dealers to remove it, he was happy to provide a replacement free of charge. Like I said, no biggie. The Fender guy was nice as he could be. Heck, I've waited 5 years since wanting it, what's another week to get a new pick guard?

The stock pickguards are mint green.. Yours looks very white. Not that it matters since they're sending you a new one. What lovely people!!
Congratulations btw, I have the very same guitar - they're superb! |

Yes, this is top only bound in black. The alder seems a little more select than the usual alder on these (painted) MIM 60's; amber toned finish. The Palo is a veneer of one and sometimes 2 pieces. Dunno how many there were (500, maybe?) and they all seem a little different. My girlfriend always wants to hear this, not the CS No-Caster. I think people do hear with their eyes, sometimes. Looking for a picture of the back, no luck: ![]() Properly intonated. |
