MIM neck or ALPARTS?
HI'
Just wanted some opinions on a parts build! which would be a better neck for a tele style build, supposing both necks are in good condition, would you put a fender, MIM or a ALPARTS neck on? Thanks in advance!! |

the Allparts necks are made by the same company that makes the Fender Japan necks. they are one in the same….

I would go with Allparts. One small thing that bothers me about the MIM products is that they have that ugly cheap plastic truss rod plug at the headstock. Why can't they just use walnut like the MIJ and MIA and the Classic Vibe series? Such a small thing but I really don't care for it, it just that rubs me the wrong way. Sorry for the rant...

I agree that the Allparts are great necks. However, the classic series MIM necks are on par IMO. The now defunct Muddy Waters Tel neck (and the Robert cray strat neck) are as good as any Allparts I've played.

Allparts has the TMO-fat neck that is my favorite, no MIM neck is close.
I have owned a MIM 50's classic and an MIM Nashville and sold both of them, now I play Allparts or on I made. I tried a Baja that so many people like and it was not for me either. There are a lot of differences in necks, back profile, fretboard radius, fret size are the choosing factors... not whether it is Allparts or MIM or any other brand. |

The neck on my MIM Classic series 72 Deluxe RI is a pretty awesome neck and also a fairly unique one for a Fender so... I wouldn't say that MIM is low quality. Depends on the neck you're talking about.

The TMO and TRO-FAT Allparts necks are the ones with the really thick neck section that I'm looking for.
2 positive things: Not all "licensed" headstocks are equal. These Allparts headstocks are your MIJ Fender design; they're super Fendery; You can get 'em in either maple board or rosewood with no skunk stripe. A rosewood board plus walnut skunk stripe is a little cluttered looking IMO. (Warmoth, many USA Fender necks do this); 2 negative things about Allparts FATs: The fretwire is a vintage tall, with a short tang, and the kerf is often a generic depth with excess depth that is evidenced by some glue residue that's hard to mask; These are a genuine 1 + 5/8ths width at the nut, not 1.650 even, and that's kinda narrow for me. |

I recently got an Allparts FAT strat neck and they seem to have changed the spec a bit compared to the FAT tele necks I've ordered over the last couple of years. The back contour is more of a C than a U and the frets aren't as tall as the 6105s they used to use. I didn't have to reshape it at all. Love it!
