eh, mid 60's and earlier are what is really vintage. They did change how they were made then. I believe around that time was when restrictions had started to be placed on rosewood.

oh, '51 and'53 tele's imo. Can't say anything about starts though. Wouldn't know.

I'd say anything in the 50s, particularly early 50s. What do I know, though. For me its gotta be an Esquire!

'52, is what I've heard.

But that's worth what you paid for it.

Hi BG, do you have any idea of the measurements on the pickups in the Brian Poe tele?

When I was a kid my folks rented a guitar for me to see how serious I was about it. (I had a cheap Japanese guitar) It was an early Strat, somewhere between '54 and '57. It had the switch over by the lower horn rather then by the control knobs. We took it back to the store and by the time we decided to buy it, it was gone. Rumor has it that Jeremy Spencer of Fleetwood Mac ended up with it as the Mac played down the street from the music store right around then. I think you can see it on the Rhino FM Documentry video.

That's my holy grail. And I want it back, Jeremy!

Mid '59 was the first of the Tele slab boards - I have a Sept. '59 - it's a devilishly thin neck, some say an "acquired taste"; some of the '59 and '60 pickups were wound with a football shaped coil that sounds better than others. I had the opportunity to buy a '57 Strat years ago, and blew it because at the time I couldn't get past the color (pink) - one of those bad decisions we make. It was the best playing fender I have ever touched. So that's my "Holy Grail."

Where did you acquire that? Or did MM just pull it out of nowhere?
