that's pretty much how I do it when I'm the seller, which is quite often!

If that's frustrating to people, then maybe they have issues dealing with the public. Politely answer the question and move on.

In the sales biz, you're a tire kicker.

That's OK of course, as a salesman will tell ya, you weed through tire kickers and be backs ("ah, I'll be back") on the way to a buyer. It's a matter of numbers.

The trick is to be kind to all 'cos tire kickers and be backs can be made into buyers although the odds are against it.

Also - there are more tire-kickers and "wouldja take ?" artists out there than ever and sure - we all know the economy blows but it's still frustrating if you were around for the glory days of Ebay.

I think the seller had a point. Either the weight put you off or it didn't... if it truly did, then you wouldn't have been interested in the body for a lower price.

I am sure he was a bit frustrated.
+1

Your negotiation skills are what is at fault. It may have been apparent to you what you were suggesting but not to the seller.

Once he let you know the weight your reply should have been a clear message that you were really seeking a body of a certain weight and while the weight of the body listed wouldn't kill the deal for you you would only be prepared to pay $X for a body that weight. Then wished him well with his auction saying that someone was sure to like the body but if the auction didn't succeed you would be interested in the body at the price you had mentioned.

You wanted a chance to get the body at a cheaper price and now that chance is gone. Your negotiation skills failed you.

I'm in agreement with IPLAYLOUD and Sorry but I have to side with the seller on this. You asked a question and he answered you. And then you made it clear that you weren't interested in the item at his listing price. So you're just wasting his time. People list things on Ebay to sell them...not dick around with low ballers.

Yeah, well he said he would be interested at a lower price.

You'd best get your flame retardant suit on, brother.

Yeah, and who wouldn't? That's not the issue. The issue is that he tried a lowball tactic on the seller by more or less stating that the listing was too high for his liking. Sounds like the OP was the younger part of the dialogue...like 15.

I guess I should have asked the weight and then replied with the following as to not upset anyones delicate sensibilities:

"Thank you for your kind response, however, I am a downright deplorable cork sniffer, and looking for something a little lighter if I'm going to spend that much, albeit stupidly. That is not in any way implying that I think you are charging too much. This is not a tactic, and I want to make sure I obey ebay protocol. I would never insult you by offering less than your very reasonable asking price. I actually applaud you for charging more than Warmoth as I am sure the body has appreciated in value having been in your expert care. I sincerely apologize if I have wasted your time, and I feel like a horrible human being if I have done so. Rest assured I will repent for my transgressions. If you don't find a buyer, please let me know and not only will I give you your asking price, but I will increase it by 10% since I feel so terrible for having asked this question. I hope you find this acceptable and non threatening. Have a wonderful carefree pleasant day! I will be sending a card and a dozen pansies as well in hopes that you can forgive my ineptitude as an eBay buyer!"

The WWII generation we just celebrated are rolling in their graves fellas!

I don't really like BMWs but if I could get one for less than the cost of a Hyundai I would. How's that for a point?

I fail to see the gripe.

I see the sellers point.

Yupp, "too high for my liking" exactly.... how is that an offense? If everyone liked everything nothing would go unsold. Guess I am just foolish and young at heart. Really didn't expect all this... you guys friends with this dude or something? These threads really take on a life of their own. I even had to go back and look at the original post... yupp.... I'm still right.

maybe you can explain it to me then... why was there a gripe? I guess next time I'll just pass on an auction instead of asking a question. You guys don't even know the details of the listing. If it doesn't sell and he lists it for a few bucks less I may buy it if he wasn't a jerk.
