Hamer Echotone--anyone have info for me?
Like what's it like compared to the comparable Epiphone and Ibanez models? What are the Duncan-Designed pickups like--why are they different than the US stuff? What's a fair price for a used Echotone in excellent shape with hard case?
Thanks.

They go for around $300, used, on eBay, last I checked. I bought mine from Will Ray and paid too much (I bid like a fan, not a smart shopper), though I've never regretted it. At the very least, I think they're a terrific "bang for the buck" guitars.
I played dozens of semi-hollows, from Gibson ES-335's to Guilds, from Ibanez to Samicks. I think the Echotone is right up there or better than any (including several of the new and vintage Gibsons) I played. As with most inexpensive guitars, upgrading the tuners and the electronics helps (though my bandmate's stock Echotone sounds incredible through his '65 Princeton Reverb!). Will Ray had installed Gibson P94 (neck) and a Classic '57 (bridge) pickups in mine.
