Anyone see Steve Cropper on PBS last week???

The 'Colonel' was briefly featured in a cool John Lennon special last week on PBS.

I missed the very beginning, but I guess that the premise was that someone got ahold of John's old portable jukebox and "explored" his musical interests. Of course he had a Booker T 45 in the collection (but I can't remember which one and its not on the web site!!!).

Anyway, they then interviewed some of the artists who made those original 45s (including Steve, Delbert McClinton, the Isleys, Gary US Bonds, Donovan, etc.).

There was some classic Booker T footage, but nothing I hadn't seen before. :(

You can read about it HERE.

I saw some of it.
BobMc started a thread about the program.
I continue to be amazed at the talent Steve has played with and the songs he has written.

No, but I did see Booker T. and the MG's yesterday at the bay blues fest. They were awesome!! He was using a red knob twin with a couple pedals.

I didn't know they were touring. I'm a sucker for their tunes---and I love Cropper's playing.

Didn't know John and I shared so many faves!

If KCET/PBS in LA ran the show, I missed it. So I followed TomK's link to the site and clicked on the playlist. Couldn't believe it when I saw titles like:

Gonna Send You Back to Georgia - Timmy Shaw
The Walk - Jimmy McCracklin
Who's Lovin' You - The Miracles (I think it was the flip side of Shop Around)
Slippin' and Slidin' - Little Richard (flip of Long Tall Sally)
New Orleans - U.S. Bonds
If You Gotta Make a Fool of Somebody - James Ray

These and many of the others were among the songs I couldn't get enough of while growing up. Sure hope KCET runs (re-runs?) the show soon.
