So, My Wife Can Hear the Difference Between a Telecaster and an Esquire
I was playing my Esqiured Paisley and my wife noticed the huge hole where the neck pickup was supposed to be. So she asked me about it. So I went and got my Paisley Tele, plugged it in, and played the same riff.
She commented that the Esquire had more high end. Yes, it does! [IMG] [/IMG]

Don't take that for granted. Hell. She even deserves points for noticing the big hole in the guitar.
I showed a girl a picture of my guitar synthesizer (this one http://www.tdpri.com/telephoto/data/...land_gr-55.jpg). It was actually relevant to what we were talking about. She didn't say anything about that. No, "what does that do, how does that work, why did you buy that," or anything of the sort. She started talking about the carpet that's in the picture... I'm not kidding you : T |

Your wife has a good ear. She might have "perfect pitch"which I have. You can be born with it or develop it through various instruments like violin strings instruments. In my case I don't know, I learned pitch by playing the tenor trombone as my first instrument.Any instrument that relies on ther rather that frets, valves etc. Read a Scientific article on it once and it can be developed.
It apparently exists in about 1/1000 people. She must has good ears, it's also a brain thing. |

MY wife is kind of like that. She always knows when I get something new, I'll be playing something and she'll be like, "Is that a new pedal?". or , "that guitar sounds different than before", after I've changed pickups, or a circuit. I think she's been checking my Paypal account.

Likely true. SWMBO has access to every account (she runs stuff) and is omniscient. That's why when I can't find things, I always ask her where they are.

It's no secret that a guitar with a single bridge pickup and no neck pickup will sound different (more highs, a bit more harmonic content, sometimes a little more volume) than the same guitar with a neck pickup in it. That's why Les Paul Juniors, and Esquires, sound like they do compared to Les Pauls and Teles. A neck pickup has magnetic pull on the strings, having that or not having that is pretty noticeable, sonically.

She commented that the Esquire had more high end.
Yes, it does! Interesting. Same guitars, same pups, presumably same strings of similar age (that could cause a huge difference). I wonder what causes that? Does it have something to do with the fact that there is no magnetic pull from from a neck pup in the Esquire? Is there a difference in tone between the two guitars with the neck pup installed in the Esquire, or do they sound the same, or at least more similar? I don't have an Esquire, but I'm intrigued by these tonal differences. |
