Serial numbers 52RI

After a few years of absence I found my way back to this discussion page. My old user name was Netherman, but my password got lost and so did my email address. So it was time for a new nickname. That was that for the re-introduction. Now the question.

I own a 52 RI telecaster from august 1998. I was wondering, is there alot of difference in the quality among the RI´s through out the years? From the time the first RI came to the market till present. Are there any bad years?

Thanks,
Marco

No bad years. Like all guitars some sound and play great others dont.

There are 2 different models 1982-1998 and 1998-99-present.

In Late 98 early 99 they changed the model number from the 1303 series to 0202.

When they did that they made the neck a little bigger color a little more accurate and fixed the 12th fret markers and headstock so they were more accurate. They also changed the pickups to A3 magnets.

Here's mine, that I purchased from Gruhn's in the mid 1980s.

5 piece body, approx 7-8 lbs, soft 'v' neck, stock electrics, has had a couple fret dresses.

I've seen some new ones, and they are lighter, with better looking woodgrain and finishes.
