Really does the weight of the body effect one?

I find it hard to believe. Your Thoughts?

You mean, affect "Tone"?

Then yes, it probably does but, is it quantifiable or consistent? Probably not.

It can make one's back hurt if it's over 14 lbs and one plays long gigs...

And thats all they are, just my thoughts. I'm not a techy. I don't pay alot of attention to stats or trends. Meaning I'm not qualified for any sort of technical explanation on the physics. I'm an old school guy with"old" being the key word. I play thru an old marshall half stack with no pedals at all. I have more than a dozen guitars and the heavier ones, as a genearal rule, have a much better sustain rate than the lighter guitars. Easier to get the crunch.I can adjust the amp to accomadate the lighter guitars, but they take more gain to get the sustain. As far as tone, they all get great tone. Just easier to coax the sustain with the heavier instruments. The heavier, the easier. Again, just my thoughts based on my experiences with MY instruments.

I myself find it very hard to believe that body weight effects one. It may affect two. Possibly three. But to suggest anything else is ridiculous. I have such effection for these kinds of questions.

IMO, sustain is only a small part of "tone."

This is very true. Unless your doing classic hard rock. Then it becomes a major part of the tone chain. For clean, country/chikin pikin, thru a fender"ish" amp, the weight of the guitar becomes almost a non factor.

This might be better than the Hatfields and McCoys coming up tonight.

I guess it's possible that a search could be done to review the past several hundred discussions.

My Danelectro doesn't seem to know that it shouldn't have tone or sustain. Shhhh. Don't tell it.

Maybe ash and Mahogeny .Paulowonia gives a guitar some real zing but is so light it almost floats off .By the way Fender call it Empress wood and charge about $1400 more for it.
My personal view of heavy guitars is that as your feet are welded to the floor and cannot move the tone goes through the floor ,up your feet and into the guitar .

Giving the disclaimer of being a hack guitarist, my only contribution to this topic is that: "Weight does not contribute to tone, but affects how long without a break that a given tone can be produced."

I think I need to copyright that.

I've got a very light-weight Esquire, and a featherweight SG that would disagree strongly.

Hmmm, my friend let me borrow his '79 hardtail Strat (10 pounds) and it sounds very bright and twangy, but with great sustain.

That is your experience; I tend to agree, others may not.
