It's funny, my buddy (who swears by his Strat - cause it's an MIA and he payed too much for it ...yeah...) isn't what you'd call "technicaly profecient" so when he broke a string one night I let him play my 72 Deluxe while I changed his string for him... he played a little number and then we took set break. So I asked him "so what was it like playing a totaly diferent guitar???" and he just stares at me and says "that thing nearly played it's self!!!! it just felt so COMFORTABLE and easy to play..." Now my 72 RI is far from a "typical Tele" but I thought that was pretty cool aye He's also the guy who "never saw the need for a tube amp" untill his POS Line 6 blew up the other day and he stumbled on a Vintage Super Reverb... now he's sheepishly admitting that his tone was ahem "lacking" and he can't believe "I ever played without one of these things" ... sometimes a big ear-to-ear smile is all the "told you so" you need to throw at a guy aye hahahahahaha

Dan Auerbach's Tele, some oh so fuzzy goodness spawned from it.

Here's a pic where somebody built one to replicate it. (He added the bigsby after the above video)

Great video with GE! He is a Tele man & a great example of how versatile the Tele really is.

Woa! Strong words there. He really hates Teles? Absolutely?

What is the basis of this anti-Tele bigotry? Does he hate Country music and associates the Tele only with Buck Owens? Does he hate Industrial Metal and associates the Tele only with John William Lowery (a.k.a., John 5)?

Is he a guitar player? In other words, can he be reasoned with by actually putting a Tele in his hands?

Depending on his willingness to listen to reason and to a Tele and Tele players, he may or may not be reachable on this. If not, then I agree with 3 Chord; it won't matter what you "show" him. A lot of good Tele players have been mentioned, and some famous and sweet Teles have been posted here. (And I haven't even posted pics of mine yet. ) But that won't matter to him if his mind is already made up and he doesn't want to be confused with any facts.

Double Bound with a hefty neck with rosewood board.. Funny color isn't all that important, dakota red, black, sun burst dosen't really matter but it must have a mint green pick guard & matching headstock.. that's what I'll be looking for when I'm ready to get another tele..

If he hates Teles because of their looks, his opinion probably won't change, no matter how many cool-looking Telecasters you show him.

If, on the other hand, he hates Teles because of their sound, then I'd get him to a good audiologist as soon as possible and have his ears tested.

Whenever I ask him about it he says that Teles "are for country" and they are "really ugly shaped". I don't really know what he has to compare; he plays a squire strat with humbuckers, I think I just need to let him play my American Deluxe Tele and he'll be converted, I disliked the idea of a telecaster until I played one, now it's all I'll play.
