Anybody else NOT like BSB?
Maybe it's just me but I do not find this color appealing at all. Something about it just rubs me the wrong way. Not that I have anything against it, it's just never done anything for me. People seem to love them around here and in general, though so maybe I'm just missing something.
What do you guys think? Anybody with me? BSB lovers, what do you like about it so much? Of course, this is coming from the guy who hated Teles when he first saw them but now can't get enough! |

Hi Dr, I always had mixed feelings towards BSB. I like and I totally dislike it... but I think that, maybe for the very same reason, it's a color with lots of character.
I also "hated" Teles in my rock days and my dream guitar was a Strat. But as so much happens with me, my initial "hate" is a signal of something that's going to rock me deep in the future! And the Telecaster was no exception |

I think the original blonde Teles that have yellowed to a butterscotch-like colour are amongst the most beautiful guitars on the planet. The 'butterscotch blonde' that Fender uses on its reissues such as the AVRI 52 is too yellow for me.
Now, 'Nocaster Blonde'... THAT I like! |

I was never crazy about buttersctotch. I wanted the ash natural. But then when it came down to walking the streets with serious money in my pocket to buy one of those things, the ash looked . . . disappointing. But the Baja butterscotch, even from across the road and through traffic. It glowed. It shone. It called and beckoned.
It was like in Pulp Fiction when they open the attache case . . . It looks lousy on screen; it doesn't look anything special in a magazine advert. Doesn't even look that great up on stage. But see in up close, in daylight, and the BSB infects you . . . |

Like you, I didn't like Teles too much either when I first became aware of them, but they're now my favorites.
As far as BSB goes, it's certainly not my favorite finish, but I don't mind it. I think the vintage appeal of the color is what looms so large in the minds of many. It's comparable to 3-tone sunburst on a Jazzmaster or a Jaguar. On any other guitar, I don't care for it, but on those models it just seems right. |

I love that color for a blackguard Tele.It looks especially nice when it is aged.My friend owns a 2000 AVRI 52 that has been played very heavily and has relic'd naturally quite a bit.It looks amazing with it's chips, dents, dulled spots and some worn away spots down to the wood.I love the color when brand new but it really comes to life when aged un-evenly.

It's kinda like Freya was saying. When I think of an old Telecaster, the color butterscotch blonde just automatically comes to mind for me. It's like when somebody mentions an old Corvette, I automatically think "red." Or if somebody is talking about Mattel's Barbie Doll, I automatically think "blonde," not the myriad of other colors she now comes in. Or when somebody talks about an old Gibson Les Paul, I always think "Goldtop." Whether we like the color or not, butterscotch blonde in a Tele is just the "classic" color.

I am not too crazy about some sunbursts, but others I like. I like to see grain, so I'm also not a fan of too many solid colors. |

The reasons that I bought a 60th: Along with the "blonde" color, the grain visible through and the nitro finish (or whatever they pass off for nitro these days) - I also like the fact that is not orange.

What they are doing with the '52 now is criminal. I see them with the body one color and the neck an entirely different color. The necks look like they are several shades darker. Maybe the thought is they will blend with age. Like maybe a hundred years. I had two of them, the first the neck was much better matched to the body. The second was like you had a body, and found a neck somewhere and stuck it on it. I really get tired of looking at BSB after a while. I wish they made more Teles in some sort of plain white. The only thing I like less than butter Scotch is BLACK!!
