Is it dumb to keep the stickers?
I was fortunate to get a 2006-07 MIM Standard that looks showroom new. In fact the original pick guard protective plastic is on it with the sticker. Is it worth it to swap out the pickguard to keep the original with the sticker on it?

No. Take it off. It will discolor the guard.

Take them off!
I had to find a new PG because the stickers had been left on a Jimmie Vaughan Strat I got from a previous owner. If the plastic and stickers hadn't been left on for some 6-7 years, the PG would have had a nice, even, aged color. Instead it had tan lines where the stickers were. |

He's saying he wants to leave the stickers on the original pickguard and put on an aftermarket pickguard.
I don't see why not, if you want too. Think how cool it would be to sell that thing 40 years from now and have that in the case with the rest of the candy? |

Anyone old enough, do you remember buying a new guitar in the late 70's and just sayin, "hey its just a new guitar, too over-produced, blah blah blah?" Same thing today, we're whining about over produced guitars today, but the population is inflated just like gas station prices...in 50 years how many all original 2003 highway ones will be on the market?? Honestly, I don't think it'll be many. Now how many with original pickguard with plastic on it and case candy?? Even less.....just sayin.....haha. :P |

I think the future value of the guitar will be higher if the original pickguard was kept on it, and was just as aged (or well preserved, as the case may be) as the rest of the guitar.
In other words, I'd take the stickers and clear plastic cover off - if you want to keep them along with the other original case candy, stick them onto a piece of clear plexiglass. But in the end, it's your guitar - this is just what I'd do.

If you're the sort who leaves the sticker on the brim of the baseball cap, then sure, leave the sticker on the pickguard.
![]() Seriously, though, I like the idea of keeping the guard with the sticker and replacing it with a new one on the guitar, so that you have a "just out of the showroom" thing you can put together if you like.

Heck, just put the entire guitar under the bed wax-sealed in the case and buy a CV50 and play that to hell... Of course, then you have the CV sticker to fret over... |

Considering that it's a MIM Standard, with likely no possibility of ever going up in value, or of ever being rare, or of ever being highly desirable, I'd say take that sticker off. Not saying it is a bad guitar, just not something I'd worry about keeping in original condition for a possible resale some day.
