Thanks for this - it would probably have slipped under my radar otherwise!
I notice the decal is an Esquire one. Is this likely going to be a replacement for the famous Esquire if/when it's retired? |

Wait, what? This makes me sad.
I know saying non-positive things about Bruce on a Tele forum is a prime example of failing the stupid test, but I'm going to anyways. Folks fake-relic a guitar to look like something they are not. To appear not as they are. To me, this is like Bruce with a comb-over. He doesn't need to stoop to this level. Bruce, don't fake it till you make it.... guitar wise. If the old stuff you own is un-useable and retired, then buy vintage or grab a new one and get to putting some honest marks on it. EDIT: I guess I'm just an idealist and this kinda stuff happens all the time. Show business is show business after all. Just though that relic'ed guitars weren't needed for folks in that realm of guitar-legend-level. |

The neck work is to make it more like the guitars he is retiring or is using less, so that they don't feel so different. Relicing in this case is more than justified as it is for a purpose first and the pose second. If you relic the neck, then why not the body? But yes, the part of Springsteen's image is that Esquire - it's not like he's doing it to sell on ebay as a fake. And he has plenty of reissue that aren't relic'd.

There's actually an article many years ago where Dr. Petillo relic'd Bruce's teles as well, not just the neck, but the body too. I gotta find it sometime. |

Classic - Bruce likes a bit of wear in the neck of his guitars, doesn't want to wait 30 years of playing in. If Bruce had sanded it down himself, to get a nice feel, would that be alright with the numpties who say things like "Buy an old one or play the wear in" implying he's a fraud etc.
Jeez , get a life - you know who you are.

Hmm.... let me think on that, it might mean me but I'm not sure yet.
Like I said, anything non-positive about Bruce on a Tele forum is a guaranteed to get push back from the Bruce-can-do-wrong faithful... "Nobody puts baby in a corner" How dare someone have a comment on a internet forum, get him! |

Some folks just may not agree with what you said is all. It was actually very cool of Dave Petillo to post those photos....and I'm just guessing that he had to get the permission of a certain customer to do so. |

Let's just stick to the subject. It's just very rare to EVER see a springsteen guitar being made or worked on. Up till now, it's all be guesses, yes we don't know about what hardware or wiring or preamps went into this one, but it's cool nonetheless to see it up close.

Correct. See above. Ok, white flag up. My bad. I'm backing away. Apologies to those I offended with my comments, never meant to be considered trolling. |

Interesting but bizarre ,
They start by relicing the neck then they switch to wood rasps which take off major amount of wood, like you would use to turn a 2x4 into a guitar neck. Basically reshaping the neck Unless of course the pics are not in chronological order And what's up with those triangular frets? I haven't seen many guitars but it's the first time I see those, wish I had those on my guitars Sent from my iPad using TDPRI |
