Welcome to the thread .............. your definition of vitriol is askew.
Accusing people of dishonesty for a finish option and the tactile preferences of players is vitriol.

Pointing out that this attitude is silly ...... does not constitute vitriol.

Missing you already............

And co-incidentally, I picked this up at the ValueVillage this past week-end, looks like a great read.

I have that - actually have talked to Robert Hilburn a bit on the emails over the years - great chap, discussed everything from The Byrds to John Prine to Bruce to him having actually been at Folsom Prison with Johnny Cash. Legend.

You, personally, yourself, don't like relics? Good for you. Congrats. They'll throw a parade in your honor.

But leave everyone else alone about their choices. It's none of your business and nobody asked you.

It's boring, rude and unnecessary.
Thank You Thank you Thank You. It gets old reading the same "relic bashing" posts over and over everytime the subject comes up.

Thank you for posting the photos! I don't give a rat's @#% what someone chooses to do to their guitar. It's not my guitar so my opinion on the choice of finish means nothing. I am just happy that we all were able to get an inside look.

I saw the real Esquire in Cleveland. I had seen him use it in London in '99. It is incredible how beaten to hell it is. I remember parts of it were actually glued together.

I do not have a problem with someone building a new version of it. That's been going on for ages. Even Brian May had a bunch of luthiers rebuild his guitar.

Anyone else notice the Petillo frets? I heard that he had proprietary frets on Bruce's other guitar.

PATENT!?!?!?
I have a buddy with an early 1900's Martin that has pointy frets!

The fretwire may be the Wide/Pyramid Stew-Mac stuff, or the wire was crowned this way.

That is a great book. I bought one new in 1985 (and still have it) and for a long time, it was the "bible" on Bruce.

I think what you thought was glue is actually silicon seal (around the bridge and control plate). I looked at that Esquire for several hours on two visits and didn't see any glue.

On Dave Petillo's FB page (where those pics are from) he says they are his late Dads frets.

You could be right actually. I heard he uses that because his sweat has actually shorted out the circuitry. I remember it being around the neck pickup a bit too.
