What do I have here anyway?

I bought this about three weeks ago, and I haven't been able to find any information on it. I assumed it was a '72 Custom RI, but now I'm not so sure anymore. There's no serial number on the guitar, and it doesn't say where it was made. Can't even find if this was ever reissued officially in the natural finish. Maybe it's a parts-caster?

It's got a SD Hot Rails 'bucker in the bridge and Grover tuners, but they're probably just mods. Or if it's a parts-caster, I guess they'd be personal preference rather than mods. Hah.

Any help you can give is appreciated. Thanks!

Beautiful.

We'd love to see the back of the headstock, under the heel and inside the neck pocket, and the routing and underside of the pickguard.

Very sweet looking guitar!

It plays really well. I love maple necks, and the action is good. Just need a new set of strings. They put a new set on in the store before I bought it, but they're way too light compared to what I'm used to.

Thanks! When I change the strings next, I'll take it apart and take some photos.

Nice! I've been looking for one of those for quite some time. Hard to find in NS without someone asking a lot of $$ for them. What store did you get it from?

I found it at Long & McQuade in Halifax. Somebody brought it in for a trade-in. I was pretty surprised to see it hanging on the wall.

Fender Japan reissued some natural 72 Customs and Deluxes I believe.

I lusted for one of those for a long time, finally getting a MIM Custom, but in black (steal of a deal that I just couldn't pass up).

Since then I replaced the bridge pickup with a CS Nocaster, and the neck WRHB with a Novak Jazzmaster (JM-V). Pretty great combo.

Beautiful guitar! Enjoy!

Have you looked at the pots and switch yet...may give you an idea. Looks nice to me.
I have a couple of those and I love being able to dial in as much or as little of each p`up in the middle position...mine are MIJs abut not Fenders.

TC72 confirms that it's a Fender Japan Tele Custom.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if there's any way to know what year it was made?
