Fair price for a 2008 MIM Natural Tele Spec. Ed.

I found a NOS 2008 MIM Natural Tele with a tortoise shell PG. It's stamped "Fender Special Edition" on the back of the HS. It appears to be a 1 pc body, but it may be a 2 pc matched really well. I assume it's a 2008 from the sn. MZ8XXXXXX.

Looks unplayed, ansking 350, 400 shipped. Sounds like a great price, reputable Brick and Mortar dealer.

Any reason not to jump on it?

Thanks!

Randy

I don't know about "NOS" in a MIM, but ya FSR model.

Probably Tex Mex pups, NICE guitars !

400 is pretty steep though. New, the FSR (MIM anyway) don't usually go for anymore than a Standard.

I sold a used one with tex mex pickups and a decent case for $375, and the guy loved it, so did I, another one of those I wish I'd kept.

I want to know why it has been sitting up for over 3 years.

When these are nice, they sell.

Btw, it is emphatically not a 1 piecer; it is probably not even a 2 piecer. A close inspection will probably reveal 3 pieces.

Find out how heavy this one is. These can be normal in weight, a little heavy, or sometimes just outrageously heavy.

If you can get the price down to $ 350 total and all else checks, you could take the plunge. This model is sort of a "special value" and is IMO better value for money than the conventional MIM Standard. And if it is a sweet one, it might be worth $ 50 over another '08 MIM Standard. I'm flummoxed as to why it sat there.

We'd love to be told more detail. Images would be great.

I forgot to mention, the FSR with Tex Mex pickups in my opinion beats the pants off any new MIM standard I've played. I would WAY rather have an FSR Ash with the Tex Mex. You can put a base plate on the Tex Mex bridge pickup for about 10 bucks and have a killer bridge pickup. It's pretty darned good either way.

+1

you can UPS a guitar like that across the U.S. for about 20-25 bucks. Them being a UPS shipping point.............about $15, so 350 shipped shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for all the replys.

I'll put up a picture later 2day. I'm sure it's a 2 pc matched in the center. The grain is amazing on the body. I've got an email in to the dealer. Unfort. it's in another state, on the other side of the country. He was asking $350 w/ Gig bag + $65 Shipping. I offered $350 delivered and he can keep the Bag.

I wonder about the 2008 issue as well, but he has 2 of them from 2008, and both look brand new, still plastic on the PG. I asked about the neck & electronics, and he does have a 3 day no questions asked return policy.

My problem is I live in a remote corner of MT, so I can't go to the nearest (250 miles away) Mega Center and compare 12 different teles. I know a new FSR ASH is only $450, but some of those 3 pc bodies joints are horribly placed.

Since I've seen photos of every part of this one, for the right price I'll bite!

Good deal, sometimes a situation can warrant speeding a little more if need be. Like I said, they are VERY nice guitars !!

and the clear coat on the ash looks stellar !!

Your call for sure !

Best of luck !

Upper Michigan is amazing this time of year. We have a summer home South of Traverse City on Crystal Lake, and it's magical in the summer.

Thanks for the input!

anyway ya that's a nice area, I was there once (Traverse City) and all the way up to the end of peninsula there, very pretty.
One of my Son-In-Laws is from the west of Gaylord area there.

So you are just a part time troll.

Looks like a very NICE ash billet they used there! If/when you get it, you can tell a lot better how many pieces it is by looking at the ends.

Not that that means anything more of less (pieces). 3 is more common, 2 rare.
I'll post pics of one I had for re-sale ( I thinking a '06) that was a 4 piece I think, and not that great a match job I might add. But is played very nice and sounded great !

Wait a minute!

You're in Whitefish, Montana, with a summer home in the U.P.?

That's sounds like living in San Diego, and going to Miami for the winter to me. I'd have a hard time getting myself to leave that part of Montana in summer.

Michigan is a Family home, my folks spend part of the year there. Whitefish is my 365 home, it's a little bit of paradise, 25 miles from Glacier National Park, 5 miles from a world class ski resort, and lakes and streams full of trout/salmon/grayling everywhere!

I don't really like to leave ever!

+1 on northern MI in the summer. I have a hard time believing there is a better place to spend a summer.

I recall from a pretty lively post on here about a year ago, that it's no lock that that guitar will have the Tex Mex Pickups, some did, some don't. You may want to inquire, if it doesn't that price may be just a little high. The one I bought in 2006 did, many on here said after 2006 they put Ceramics in even those FSR models ?

CVTele,

Hope you go for that beautiful hunk of furniture...sure looks like 2 pieces to me!

Moreover, I wanted comment about Whitefish. I happened to hit the Flathead on Aug. 29 last year. The plane we flew in on had members of Poco and most all of Pure Prairie League aboard. I kinda hit it off with John David Call, the original steel player for PPP. They were in town for the first annual Montana Music Festival the next day. The wife and I made sure to be there and I had the best time in a long time. Mr. Call spent a couple songs of Poco's set with Ann and I. What a prince of a man!...and not too shabby on the steel!...LOL!

I have to admit that I'd never heard of the Montana Band before that day.The story about the band's rise to fame and the deadly July 4th plane crash was a truly sad tale but the people of Whitefish show alot of pride and support in their memory. I salute them all...

Good luck and I hope you get that pretty tele!

Looks great and I have to agree, I think it is a two piece body, either way it's a beaut.

That's the Mission Mountain Band. I play with a circle of folks that were friends of the band when they were HUGE, and a coupe surviving members still play in the Valley.

I saw Poco too, great show!
