Personally I would never want a guitar with a significant deformity like that crack. Hope it doesn't deteriorate as it ages. Did you order it like that or what???

Do you guys really think I would ship a guitar that is not 100% . . . really..... As I said... they are BARN busters.... I chose the word Barn to convey what they are about. If y'all want something pristine, we can handle that too..... but BARN wood kinda suggests a certian mojo... this is Barn wood too....

Times sure do change....the guitar looks awesome to me and as evidenced here will definitely be a conversation starter. RK not only builds awesome guitars, but is a great source of info here as well, I guess some people just don't respect that. Raining on a guys NGD thread is disrespectful as well......another thread that reminds me of why I don't come here as often anymore.

A difference of opinion is not the same as disrespect. Ron has a sterling reputation but that doesn't mean we all have to like every guitar he builds. Nobody said it was a bad guitar or insulted anyone. To post a pic like that on a forum like this and not expect comment is ridiculous. The whole purpose of a forum is to post opinion and discuss. If anything I think the disrespect is coming more from the pro-crack side. It's just a guitar folks. In the grand scheme it's pretty damn insignificant.

Yep. It's pretty obvious that it is a superficial characteristic, and when you get folks harping on superficial characteristics, not understanding the value of a beauty mark and how this works within a deeper understanding to the intent of the design, its a bit discouraging. Guy has a killer guitar, and I bet if we passed it around the fire, the deeper meaning would become evident to those who can't get past the surface. In other words, scars are tougher than untested skin.

![]() So she's got a crack in her butt... Who here doesn't? I saw the buy/build anticipation thread, and the buyer was fully aware of it -- I'd ASSume -- so it's no big deal. Looks great! BTW, I'll affirm Mr Kirn's comment about a well-glued joint or crack being stronger than the rest of the wood. Often I have to demo cabinets in my work, and it's not the glued joint that breaks, it's the grain next to it, and this is usually hard wood (ash and oak), not pine. IMO that body looks awesome, and is the essence of what a Barnbuster should be. They all have their own character, and yours is very unique -- and I'd LOVE to own it!. I'd have zero worries about the integrity of the body, and would be showing off the back AND the gorgeous front! Last edited by tap4154; May 3rd, 2012 at 11:10 PM. |

Oh wow...She's BEAUTIFUL. I keep saying it, but in a world full of heavily figured veneer tops I just SO VASTLY prefer natural "board grains" on guitars. I also think that they are espescialy perfect on a Telecaster as it really speaks to the simplicity and "work horse" nature of the design at it's root. I'm pretty avid carver/woodworker and I certainly see the beauty in figured tops but this has so much more simplistic beauty to me.
Enjoy that beautiful piece of art and sound you've got there mate. It's GORGEOUS. Cheers Dave

Nice looking guitar there. Since everyone is weighing in on the crack I might as well too. That 'crack' looks extremely shallow to me, its really just the very end of a crack that just touches the end of where this body starts. I guess if I had a choice I'd choose not to have it but I do like the 'rugged beauty' of the barnbusters.
