Torn - half relic, half real

Ok, here's the deal, I have an 86' AVRI Strat... oops, I mean Tele. The body was really the only thing I started with. (CAR but much of the gold is showing, it's got character) The hardware is correct, but not original, and pickups are Fralins. I "built" it about 12 years ago and it's really special to me. I had a 96' Clapton neck (also had a colorful past) on it forever but recently sold it and put a boatneck Warmoth on. Anyway, I wound up "relicing" the new neck so that it would match the body, but it just doesn't seem right somehow. I don't care what other people think, I just think I killed its mojo for me. I probably should have never monkeyed with it. I really don't like relics, but just thought a new neck would look weird. I'd like to just hold out for a correct Fender neck for it, but I really love the boatneck. Maybe I'll just get another neck, finish it in nitro, and play it for another 12 years and it'll eventually match the body. Maybe I should just get over it, and move past it... anyone else have a weird "mojo" issue? My other guitars are strictly utilitarian and I like it that way... this one is just special to me because its the closest ill probably get to vintage so maybe thats why its an issue for me...... it's kind of like me throwing IFS and fuel injection on my 30' model A and trying to make it match the old school vibe of the rest of it. Thoughts? am I just crazy?

I like relic guitars, fake or not. Without seeing it, I bet it kicks ass. Reads like you like the feel of neck. Mojo is what you put into that ax when you play it. Get over the relic hangup and start wailing away.

I agree with Rumble, if you like the feel of it then stick with it. I'd go with feel over looks any day

Send the neck to a pro and have it relic'd. Buy an MJT neck and sell the one you have. Find something new to obsess over.

Here's the thing. At home, I tend to obsess a bit about what guitars look like. But when I am gigging, I never give it a second thought...what they play like and sound like is all that matters.

However, if you post some good pics of the neck maybe some of the finishing experts on her such as Colt can advise on some options for it.
