The great thing is that Fender and Squier make so many different versions of the tele which are suitable so you are in luck.

Hold the phone... I've never seen that Classic Vibe Custom! Wow, what a sweet guitar! And it's NOT made in China(assuming from Mike LA's post)? How much are those beauties going for here in the states?
Sorry to hijack temporarily. |

You cant go wrong, make any choice you fancy. I would buy a MIM & I just did the other day, I am very Happy with it. The reason is resale value, the Squier line doesn't hold it value as well as the MIM Fender Line.

The unfortunate thing is that people are stuck on headstock names. Experienced players who know teles do know the vintage flavored Squires are excellent instruments in their own right and their value is in their quality, and just check out the above video.

sounds like CV may be the way to go, I'd still try to find a good used MiM first... you should end up with a great guitar either way.
BTW... nice avatar, I love Bill Hicks

And this should be a line used in every prop given to a Squier CV. Sometimes I wonder if guys who put them down have ever played one or if they play much at all? You can't play guitar much if you don't recognize the basic quality and value of those instruments.

All the good players I know have various instruments (some only one) with great names, OK names, and unknown names on their headstocks but get them an instrument in the quality ballpark where they can show their abilities, then it's all over. The Squier CV is right there and a real player with one in his/her hands will be all over the casual player or collector with a Custom Shop gem. If a player is good and still puts down a guitar that they sound and play great on (like the Squier), then it's their problem because there's always somebody better who will take that guitar further than they will ever get. At the end of the day, it's the music and a person with a brain, hands, guts, and determination coaxing music out of a few pieces of wood, plastic, and metal and the listener/buyer will not care what words are on the headstock. |

Yeah I understand you. Holding out for a good used MIM may be the way to go if there were a larger pool of instruments available, or the Australian economy was in a real recession (now that would work...). However as you point out, down here anything with Fender on the headstock will sell for nearly the same as brand new.

When I started playing electric guitar there was maple or rosewood fretboard on typical two pickup tele, the custom with humbucker and single coil, and on special orders a Bigsby.
