I used to have a October 68 tele (neck stamp) that had the same gap. I have no idea when Fender/CBS closed the gap. Sorry.

No, that's not normal. When you put the bolts through the neck and body, they should magically grow together and fill in that gap.

So it looks normal but it were realy gaps. Was that THE qualitate for some Teles of this years or were it monday morning products?

Or is it à fake vintage fender :)

Telex76--he is not talking about the space between the body and neck on the wide part of the nocket parallel to the body. He is talking about the space betwee the neck and body which is on the upper horn, perpendicular to the body. In essence the pocket is cut wider than the neck and tightening neck screws will never change it. This gap was very common in late 60's Fenders and I believe into the early 70's. I suppose a tight neck pocket is better, but the 68 I had with a big gap still sounded and played great.

Actually lots of Fenders from all eras have gaps like that. Absolutely nothing to worry about at all in terms of playability or sound. Just play it and love it...

A friend just brought me his son's Indonesian Squier Tele.
Smallest gap I ever saw.
The guitar's probably worth $68.
