MIM 2011 why do they sound so good?

I recently played a 60th anniversary mexican standard and It sounded great. At first I thought I found one of those guitars that for no particular reason sound much better than other "SAME MAKE SAME YEAR GUITARS" but after playing a few more realized that they all sound great. Anything different between the 2011 and other years? And if so will it be the same on a 2012?

I have one and it sounds no different to previous Mexicans IMO. Maybe you got lucky? :D

The MIM's are just as good as the MIA's, just about 500 bucks cheaper. Plays and sounds just as good. Put each in the hands of a real player and you couldn't tell the difference.

All I can say is that the last MIM Std Tele I played was a 2011 and sounds and feels about the same as I expected.

For what it's worth... these guitars make great beginners - to - intermedient instruments and they have decent tone and above average "low end" quality, but I would never consider them to be at the professional level.

Good Luck!

That's why there isn't a single pro player who plays with a MIM? Am I never really gonna be a serious guitar player unless I own an MIA?

What shop was it that you played them in? Couldn't be GC. Could it?

More than enough has been said of this MIM /MIA fiasco. This much I will say however. When I read posts such as this it fills me with a mixture of anger and frustration at the sheer arrogance of some people. MIMs have been endorsed by professional players. I have been a life long player of over 40 years and have owned and played so many different standards, prices , shapes, makes, whatever of guitars that I could not begin to mention. A friend brought over his Telecaster recently and without me knowing it's origin , asked me to play it which I very willingly did. I was convinced it was a top end instrument based on soiund, action, looks etc. That's correct...it was a MIM 60th Anniversary!! Please don't dismiss them as low end/ budget /intermediate/ beginners etc. They are superb instruments in their own right.

And here we go again. I'm against censorship, but surely it's time TDPRI had some sort of sanction for these endless, **** flinging 'if your guitar isn't MiA it ain't worth a damn' posts. They add nothing, they produce only acrimony, and the only certain thing about them is that another one will be along in a minute.

Guy comes on, pleased with his new guitar, and instantly some other guy is stamping all over his joy of ownership in size 12 hobnail boots. Pathetic

NEWS JUST IN! Other countries produce guitars, and professional musicians acquire them. Sorry if this offends any citizen of the USofA, but it happens to be a fact.

Anyone doubting the veracity of the above statement is advised to start here. http://www.vigierguitars.com/artistes-59-0.php

My tele is MIA standard and I am a beginner. I am not good at playing guitar. I think I will get a MIM to reach intermediate level.

At least we aren't over on the gibson forums where merely suggesting that an Epiphone is a guitar will have half a dozen people shunning you. I saw someone over at MyLP post about their new epi semi-hollow in the Other Gibsons forum, since the epiphone forum there is only for LPs, and about 1/3 of the replies were about how he shouldn't dare post in a forum that has gibson in the name!

I love my '09 MIM Tele and could not care less what others think about it. Or me, for that matter!

I apologize for the insensitivity of my response. In my haste I chose phrasing that I can now see would insult various MIM Fender fans (believe it or not, I happen to be one of them... see below).

That said, let's be at least a little realistic here... the MIM Standard Fenders are obviously for the budget-minded consumer and they are great players in their own right, but, you can't ignore the fact that the vast majority of the comments regarding the MIM Std Fenders say the same thing: "they can be great... if you replace the pickups, etc".

If you disagree with these sentiments, that's your right in this pseudo-democracy, but I just happen to agree with these opinions, which is allegedly my right.

If you're a beginner I'd actually recommend a Squier before recommending a Fender. If you're more advanced and wanted real advice, I'd recommend spending a little more for a MIA Fender. If you can't afford a MIA Fender, then I would say that you'd still be doing pretty good with a MIM Std Fender.

I happen to own a MIM Std Tele, which I love... after I replaced the pickups... and the neck (off a Highway-1 Tele, and it is awesome). That's my opinion. If you don't agree, then you are free to comment. I appreciate an intelligent debate.

My point is: If you're some one asking whether the MIM Std Fenders are phenominally decent guitars, I would say "absolutely!", but I'm not going to sugar-coat it by saying they are phenominally fantastic.

P.S. I actually own two other MIM Fenders: a 1998 Fender Toronado and a 1999 50's RI Strat. Both are unique in their own way, that's why I like having them around. In fact the only MIA Fenders I have are an AV '52 RI Tele and a 1981 Lead-I.

When I bought my '69 thinline in '09, Musicians Friend and Guitar Centre was selling them for $940. Now the price has dropped to $800. I do not in any sense of the word consider that a "budget priced" guitar. Maybe it's my Redneck roots showing. That's a lot of money "to me". Suddenly........"now"........they are making them in America and they are about twice that price ..or more.

By the way..........mine is fine, and I imagine that the USA model ain't no slouch either but even more expensive. Anne

I can see replacing the pickups on a MIM (I did)
however I see no advantage in replacing the neck, (unless you got a bad one)
then again, why would you buy a guitar with a bad neck?
in fact I would be more inclined to replace the body before the neck

oh and to answer the original question, "because they are good guitars"

I recently bought my first MIM - an FSR Deluxe Tele.

Out of the box I had to fix the following:
* The nut slots needed filing on a couple of strings due to the 'sitar effect'.
* The edge of the pickguard needed filing around the neck pocket to fit properly.
* It had an earthing problem causing hum.

It now plays as well as any of my MIA guitars.
