No problem Rod. I'm just passing it forward from where I got it. I can't vouch for any other products or parts they sell as some may not be all that high in quality put their pickguards are fine.

For all we know this is the same place some of the domestic vendors are getting theirs and just marking them up. Mine came in a padded shipping envelope wrapped up in bubble wrap and with the same protective film on them anyone else uses.

I've had similar experiences, no doubt. It is oft said one gets what what one pays for. I wasn't implying one should buy the £5 pickguard, I just thought it was too funny that the OP specifically used the figure of £5 as the pricepoint they thought a pickguard should be

I think the between £10 - £15 mark is what you're going to end up paying for something that will also be of sufficient quality...

Not sure why £15 is considered so much... I bought a cup of coffee for £4.50 the other day, petrol is nearly £1.50 a litre... Prices are crazy for most things now.

Of course one of the reasons pickguards aren't a fiver is that they aren't a mass market product. The number of people changing pickguards is tiny compared to the number of people buying cases for the iPad or whatever.

Economies of scale probably mean that some items that seem similar in terms of materials or manufacturing complexity are cheaper because 50 times as many are made compared to pickguards.

I played outside of a beer establishment last week. I bought a girl a beer and it was over $7.00. The last time I bought a beer for myself, years ago, it cost a dollar.... A good, well fitting pick guard, especially 3 ply seems like a steal compared to the cost of two beers these days. They were, however, dark beers of some sort of exotic nature. If I had to make a pick guard from scratch, I would most likely charge a lot more than whatever they cost in stores.

Guess you wouldn't sell too many then.

I've bought three or four 'guards from GFS for $10-13 US dollars... seems pretty reasonable. The guards one buys from Fender are often in the $35.00 range. I can't see the difference, save for the fact that one comes in a plastic pack that says "Fender" on it.

Sorry if I was a bit snotty. You are certainly entitled to your opinion!

A pickguard isn't just a "basic bit of plastic" though. It's got a contour and holes and notches, etc. IOW, it's machined, with tools, by laborers with a certain amount of skill. A basic bit of plastic would be rectangular or something. BTW, basic rectangular blanks of pickguard material can cost more than a machined pickguard - figure that one out! Lol..

Anyway, again, sorry if I came accross as a jerk.

After seeing your remarks in another post it looks like this is directed at me too. Tell ya what, the next time I make the mistake of being in the same thread as you remind me who you are and I'll go away. Then you can keep making your silly remarks with no one to call you on them. We all have opinions. Sometimes I forget yours are more important than mine. You must know what you're talking about. I mean, you started the thread.

Oh, buying the Crazy Eddie way. "We sell below our cost but our volume is so great we can still make a profit." LOL

I don't know guys. Those of you who can justify spending $25 -$35 for a piece of decorative plastic have my admiration. I guess the economy isn't as bad as they say.

Me, if some other fella will sell me the same thing, or nearly the same thing (so close I can't tell) for $6 or $7 I think I'll give him my business and spend the money I save on two or three of those $4.50 quid beers our mates across the pond are drinking.

But could I have mine chilled a bit if you please?
