Best Tele under $800 ??

Well I was wanting to try out the Tele Baja today , Guitar Center , best buy and another guitar shop did not have one . Yesterday I played a Fender Standard Telecaster FSR Ash with Vintage Noiseless Pickups" Electric Guitar Butterscotch Blonde" , How does this compare to a Baja ? Thanks everyone

Hello music has an American special sunburst for $699 incl gig bag. I'd do that first.

You know it's so very hard to know what a fella is gonna like or dislike about any given model that the only answer to this question is "which ever seems best to you".

I can provide a couple of opinions though. Baja's seem to be very popular with some of the guys here. Just make certain that you like the "V" neck profile more than the "C" shape on others. I have both Soft "V' and "C" shapes on my Teles and I like both for specific reasons but not everyone does.

Next is IMHO nothing that Fender sells with the name "Noiseless" on it should be considered Vintage. Personally I don't think they sound anything like vintage pickups. But that's me. I think you'd like the pickups combo in the Baja much better. I know I would.

That's the best opinions I can give you pepvol. Good Hunting!

IMO the best Tele under $800 is not a tele, but a used G&L ASAT Classic. I bought mine in mid 1990s and have no plans of ever parting with it.

Thanks a lot guys , jandlgoldman , thx for the heads up on Hello Music , didn't even know about it , that American Special must now be sold out , it showed up when I first clicked on it but now it doesn't. Thanks Soulman for your input too , just the kind of stuff I'm looking for .

Hello Music now has a Black Roadworn Players Tele for $719 ... I think the Roadworn stuff is sort of silly myself , but that does look like a nice Tele and I was digging the all black on Maple look anyway ( was thinking about getting a Black Baja ) , my question is though , aren't these made in Mexico ? This price seems a little high for a Mexico Tele doesn't it ? Thanks again for any help guys

The Baja's are a MIM model but they're at the top level of that line. The Baja's have features far and above a MIM Standard including the pickups which as I said, if you're looking for more of a vintage tone, you'll probably like. The marketing hype is that it's the brain child of one of there master builders and incorporate CS like feature in a moderate priced guitar. Give one a shot and see if you like it.

Thanks a lot Soulman , I've been to 4 different shops in the last 2 days trying to play a Baja , and had no luck , I couldn't believe Guitar Center didn't have one ! I'm definitely leaning towards a Baja , I'd just like to play one first and see how the neck feels .

Pepvol, Here's a long thread from the Baja owner's club: http://www.tdpri.com/forum/guitar-ow...ners-club.html It may be an interesting read.

It showed up for me just now. i bought one a few weeks ago and just love it. In fact i just got back from watching a friend play a show with it, and several people commented on how good the guitar sounded. if you can get it for that price i'd say don't hesitate.

'60s Classic Series. Beautiful Rosewood fretboard, 1.65 nut, alder body, maple neck, mint pick guard, great sounding stock pickups. Three color options: Candy Apple Red, Black, Olympic White.

Was so tempted to pull the trigger this afternoon but fought off the urges , than this evening I got an email from them with a $100 off offer..

Bottom line I passed on it, already waiting for the Road Worn Player tele from them and have a build on order.. but if i *needed* another tele..

That's a key factor as far as that guitar is concerned. It's not really the width that will feel different it's the depth of that "V" compared to a "C" shape. It feels "chunkier" as some would describe it. Sorry you're having so much trouble finding one to try.

The Bajas are really, really good guitars. I don't know much about the other models. The Roadworns seem overpriced by $100-200, but they are also excellent instruments if you don't mind the bizarre lack of wear on frets 9-12.

Ok I see it now , I hate Jumbo frets though , if it was the white one I'd probably still get it though , I'm bookmarking that site , that's $200 less than Sweetwater is selling it .... I may change my mind yet

What amp are you running? The guitar is but a small part of it.
