new guy with new Hot Rod 52
hey all, finally got around to joining after years of reading. Been thru several teles over the years, but picked up a Hot Rod 52 in black today from my local shop. Hopefully I can get the picture up. Sorry it's not the best shot, been busy playing.

Gorgeous. Is the flag your own addition?

Any chance of seeing pics under the control plate? Fender leaves the wiring diagram off their site for the HR's. I'm curious the pot size, cap value, etc. I've gotten input from quite a few people of how they wired theirs, & it seems like no one is completely ecstatic about it. Got a mini here waiting to go into a Furrian, but i'm starting to have 2nd thoughts.
Nice guitar bunny7! |

Thanks everyone, I'm really pleased with it so far. After I've played a week or so I usually take it to my local shop and they do whatever tweaking is need. It's feels a little stiff, but the scale length is slightly longer than my Rics which it most of that feel. Not bad at all, but just different.
@stasz, yes that is a mini-hb in the neck. That was why I opted for this over the regular AVRI 52 mostly and it was available in black also. I like the sounds a lot, it definitely has it's own vibe compared to my Ric 620 and 330, but it's really just another flavor in the mix. @bender66, to be honest I haven't gotten that far with looking under the hood. been busy playing it. when I take it in for it's tweak/check up I'll try to get more info on that. Looking online it appears Fender doesn't have it listed, but some folks seem to use the "humbucker in the neck" tele diagram from Seymour Duncan. I do know the pots are supposed to 375k, but I haven't measured them for sure. Thanks again everyone. |

Ok, updated the photobucket album. Maybe not a complete hijack to the original poster since now he will know what it looks like under the hood!

I think the diagram is the same as a 3 way modern Tele, just with 375 K audio taper pots, full size, instead of 250 K. And the polarity and winding direction on the Seymour is such that the two different sourced pups will be in phase when wired in the intuitive way.
The black looks great. Anyway, to me the #1 and #2 differences on this over a usual AV52 are the different fretwire size and the larger thicker neck with the more modern 9.5 radius. The other way to get to this result in part is the Thin Skins but this neck is a little beefier, a little more shoulder also than the current AV52. |

Thank you jc93230 for adding the photos to the thread.
Really clarifies what to expect when I do get under the hood sometime. Boris, I was hoping you would see this. Really appreciate your knowledge on all things Tele and your advice I've gleaned over my years just reading here. I had a Baja that I got due to the excellent advice in your posts at the time. (of course the Baja got traded on a Martin due to an influx of acoustic gigs, and now back to electrics, so thought this tele ought to be different, but really liked the Baja.) |

@extrajerry, thanks for the compliments. I really liked the BSB too, guess it came down to wanting to match my Rics mostly.(Jetglo) I did use a BSB to finalize my decision about the neck difference between the HR 52 and the AVRI 52 and liked the 9.5 radius and the frets more on the HR. for my playing style.
