My 1978 Tele in action playing Gimme Shelter Live
Using a Marshall jcm combo and ibanez tubescreamer.
Its kind of a mash up of an early 70's stones version and the Grand Funk Railroad version. Let me know what you think (good or bad) P.S. my mate video'd it and he adds some strange 'backing vocals' in places

Yeah the lead section is a bit long, I play the songs different at every gig as I play by ear and make most of it up

Cheers, its just the DSL401 40 Watt JCM 2000 series, it overheats like a bugger, but I love it. I think it has different valves to a lot of the other Marshall valve amps, it definately seems to have a warmer sound than some others I've heard.

Yeah they really work well together for classic rock type stuff, I know a lot of people on here don't think Marshalls work with teles but I love the combo. The Ibanez tubescreamer is just their to cut through the mix on lead type stuff.

Sounded great, dripping with the Stones vibe... great tone, I was just gonna listen for a minute and ended up turning it up and thoroughly enjoying the whole thing... looking forward to hearing that LA Woman.

Nice tone from the tele. If you don't mind a little constructive criticism, I'd suggest:
1) Vary the dynamics a bit to give the song more of an organic feel 2) Move around some onstage... if you're having fun, show it I think this is one of those songs that is deceptively simple in its structure, but not so easy to put over live. It helps if you have backing vocals... if not, you could try using the Tele to provide a counterpoint to the vocals (that is, providing the singer is OK with it)... |

I agree about the song being hard to put over too, if you listen to the early stones live versions, they butcher it a lot (but Mick Taylor is still great). That's why we tried to go for a bit of a cross between the stones and Grand Funk Railroad version which is more straight out rock. Would love to get it more organic feeling too, our drummer does backing vocals but we can't get them to work on this song, plus I'm only an average guitarist at best and the rest of the band is no better
