I've come to the conclusion that Fender now produces Telecasters with virtually every pickup configuration possible from the original style twin single coil standards to Gibson wannabe's like the Custom FMT with Pearly Gates and 59 PAF Humbuckers in them and now they add a Nashville Deluxe variation with a Humbucker in the bridge position and call it an MPT Plus.

The variety is now so great that there is little excuse for anyone to buy or own anything but a Telecaster. Gibson, PRS, and Ibanez can fold up shop and go home now. Fender Tele's have got it covered. There's even a semi-hollow body with P90's too. I wonder what Leo would think about all these variations on his original concept of a "workingman's guitar".

All this tells me is that I'm so far away from rounding out a decently representative collection of Tele's that I may never be able to quit. Fender needs to lay off for awhile so I can catch up. I think there may finally be more Tele models than there are Strats.

Are they ramping up CIC production pre IPO? Interesting.

Farida stuff seems to now cost about the same as MIM Fender gear did five years ago at my local guitar shops. What is weird is that Farida re-shape their guitars quite significantly from Fender originals.

Probably nothing wrong with them.

I'm going to try out the thinline this week. I've had two g&l asat specials with the pseudo-p90 pickups. I never really appreciated these guitars until I started recording.

For £349 if it plays and sounds anything like the g&ls, then it's a steal.

Moder players have been introduced in 2011
Actually I have not yet seen in shanghai. Where did you get the 2500 rmb price? The standard strato made in china here is sold at 1999 rmb. 2500 rm. for the modern player is very interesting

Way too many variations on the same theme. I'd prefer a couple of new shapes/models - like the Tele/Jazz hybrid, Cabro's - that kind of thing. Maybe a whole new shape that's not a Mustang or Marauder.

A Modern Player Telecaster is on my must try list,it seems to be just what im looking for,and from a couple of reviews seems to be very versatile.

Really? I like the way the Modern Player Teles look, especially the Thinlines. I even think the Marauder looks cool (don't like the Jags, though). As for the "wrong step for fender" comment you made, how do you figure? Because they're inexpensive and made in China?

Yeah, they're made in China, so what? So is my iPhone, my computer, my TV, my kids toys, etc.. Country of origin doesn't bother me as long as the QC is good and the instrument plays well. The fact that it's affordable is an extra bonus for me, personally. A Fender guitar with a mahogany body, maple neck and fretboard, superb fit/finish for only $450 bucks! I can't complain about that.

The Modern Players are marketed as entry level Fenders. Now, I don't mean to casually dismiss the extensive life experiences your 19 year-old self has acquired, but not everyone can afford to lay down the cash on an American Standard, so these make sense for beginners or budget-minded guitarists. Don't knock 'em until you try 'em, Junior. You might actually like them.

I'm thoroughly enjoying mine.

Thanks for the info!

I would just encourage anyone looking to buy one, to check it out in person; actually inspect it and play it amplified. Then play a CV, for comparison.

Most of the Thinline examples of these MPs are shockingly light; if ever there was a guitar for the guy with a totally ruined spine, this might be it (if it was all you could play, you might not complain). I don't need a featherlight guitar - I doubt I could ever get used to it.

And as was said, the pieces parts are not very "Fendery" when seen in person. The CVs are way more "Fendery" based on all I've seen so far.

FYI Necks are not exactly interchangeable to MIM or MIA necks. These have a deeper neck pocket of 3 1/4". 22 fret with no overhang, you will have a 1/4" gap from heel of neck to body.
