Rare Moment of Satisfaction

My band was in the studio today cutting a demo, just some cover songs to give to club owners while we expand our footprint.

My rig sounded freakin' Goooooood. I mean, spine-tingly good. Like, wow, is that me?

Just a plain old Telecaster straight through a HotRod DeVille, with minimal effects. I used a wah on one song.

I spend so much time tweaking every thing- preamp tubes, speakers, pickups, picks, string gages, effects, you name it. From week to week something always changes, sometimes several things at once.

It's nice to know that my core sound is still freakin' awesome

Sometimes less is more. For a lot of the songs that we cover,i need effects but prefer my sound without.

I guess I owe a lot to this website....more than any other the good people here have encouraged me and taught me more than I've ever dreamed possible.

It's my OCD pesonality that shows itself in constant tweaking and tinkering. If I had more cash to play with I'd probably start buying all the necessary tools and building my own guitars and amps from scratch.

I'm just really thankful that I never strayed too far from the simple guitar-cable-tube amp formula.

My guess is the room made the difference, not the rig.

Great to have deepened one's perspective with a fresh look at things like you'd experienced. -Refresh your memory on what's really going on and what really counts. For me and my deal... I absolutely lean on a subtle delay and a light setting of a hall reverb to suggest a leetle atmosphere. But I'm playing solo a lot and often in a really quiet setting. So, these really are a help to me. But I'll play straight in any day when the acoustics of a venue are great and I'm in a band setting where it's louder and things don't sound so naked.... it's clearer the sound's not dying away unless my fingers are held down longer and more of the time. Of course this is all very stylistically dependent.
