NGD - Thin Skin 52, from the original run of 140

Just picked this up today.

It's from the original limited edition of 140 Thin Skins from 2006, with the vintage 7.25 radius and pickups the same as in the 52RI.

It's in incredible condition for a 5-year old guitar. It is absolutely as new. Not a nick, ding, scratch or blemish anywhere, nor any wear on the pickguard. It hasn't been played.

Although I haven't pictured it, it came with all the case candy, the certificate of authenticity, limited run certificate, spare bridge, ashtray cover, wiring kit and leather strap.

It looks fantastic and feels amazing. Nice low action. Exactly what I was after. There can't be many of these in the UK as I guess most of them would be in the US. I really wanted to get one of these with the thin nitro finish, which feels wonderful.

It sounds *massive*. A deep, woody, complex tone from the neck, somehow more refined and sophisticated than the CV, Baja and Roadworn I've had in the past. The bridge just sounds like a Tele bridge should. I'm planning on getting the modern wiring mod done and then I think it'll be perfect tone-wise.

My one reservation is that it's a little on the heavy side - the seller's scales showed 8.2 lbs, mine are showing 8.6. By it's feel I would say 8 1/2 is about right.

Now, I don't think if I'd ever read any of the many threads here on TDPRI about guitar weight I'd be giving it a second's thought. It feels fine when it's on a guitar strap, and I play mostly sitting down in a home studio anyway. But somehow, because of all the things I've read on here, I can't help feeling any Tele over 8 lbs is "wrong". Please tell me I'm just being silly?!

Congrats - that's really nice - love the body grain!

I wouldn't worry about the weight - my 52RI is also well over 8 pounds and is my heaviest Tele - but if you love everything about the guitar the weight is irrelevant IMHO. To me it's more important how it looks, sounds and plays.

Yours is a beauty - enjoy it!

I'm in the UK and bought one of these from Music machine in 2008. It's a fantastic guitar, weighs 7.2lb and a real tone machine. Sent it to my tech for a pro setup and it plays like a dream. Aside from the thin skin finish they also came fretted with 6105 fretwire compared to the small vintage fretwire as fitted to the regular 52 reissue.

Will post pictures when I get a moment.

If anyone has a 2006 thin skin double bound 62 reissue in two tone sunburst or lake placid blue for sale please contact me. Thanks.

That's gorgeous. And you're just being silly about the weight. If it feels fine and sounds fine it is fine.

My fave Tele weighs 9.3#... it does get tiring when playing standing, but my back surgery contributes to that. I love it and found my tone nirvana with it too, its not going anywhere.

Congrats! That's a good looking ax ... and 8.5 lbs is a perfect guitar weight IMO.

Very nice!

Minor question - what are you using for strap locks? Are they the Grolsch bottle top washers?

That guitar is so cool, it gets a pass on the weight. Play the hell out of it, baybee!

Yes, you're being silly about the weight. Look at it! Every time you think about the weight just put it on it's stand or hang it up and gaze at it. It's a thing of beauty and by your description it sounds like heaven.

To heck with the weight, that guitar is gorgeous! Even the strap looks perfect. I'm green with envy.

Hi. Yes, they're Grolsch top washers. Been using them a while on a few different guitars and they've been working well for me. I bought a packet of about 10 of them off eBay.
