50's Esquire project
Going to convert a 50's classic into an Esquire.
I'm looking at a variety of Esquire wiring jpegs I found in various posts. I'll decide which one I go with I guess once I get the parts. I see I'll need some .05 caps. Any particular kind etc.? Some have pix of what I think is 3.3k resistors? Is that correct? I'll buy some cloth wiring as well. Any other parts I will need? fb

3.3k resistor is correct.
I just use the schematic at Duncans site it always works. You can get all your parts at Radio Shack for $2-3 I have converted 2 50's Classics into Esquires worked great both times. If you want your fake neck pickup sound to be adjustable you can use a mini pot. Here ius a schematic for that incase you wanna try it. ![]() |

The switch is wired so it gives you 3 different tones similar to the 2 pickup model.
All the way back which is the bridge on a 2 pickup model gives you a wide open tone with no control over the tone pot bypasses everything but the vol control, in the middle position the pickup has tone control and all the way up which is usually the neck runs the signal thru that 3.3k ohm resistor for a fixed bassy sound. Back in the early 50's before there were alot of electric BASS guitars they wired the guitars like this so you could play a bassy sound if you wanted to. |

Classic Conversion
i did up one of my older partscasters Esquire fashion a while back....had a control plate made with no switch slot, and used a detented "no load" tone pot....it looks kinda weird, but also right just the same, and i never used the 3rd position anyways....
good luck with yours |
