Flame on Gibsons looks fine to me on Fenders that are a more simple design they look tacky.

Strange commercial. Even if I could afford the guitars, this commercial would turn me off.

If I worked on the Creative Team at Fender, I would have fought against that commercial with all of my being. Not only is it clichι and insipid, it has nothing to do with music or guitars. The guitar itself is one of the sexiest objects ever made by man and to let that crap run all over it blows my mind.

The guitars are beautiful but perhaps a bit over the top. I'm a sucker for special or limited products, but those seem to be just a bit too much.

Is that the chambered model w/violin finish? I played one last week.. Was suprised by the weight, expected it to be lighter. Otherwise it felt good in my hands, if I hadn't expected it to be lighter because it was chambered I don't think the weight is an issue. IMO it's a great looking guitar, and a good player too. If it had come in a few weeks ago I probably would have taken it home but blew out my guitar budget for the next couple of years when I brought home the 50's tele last month.

I don't care for the commercial, but the guitars look pretty good to me. Expensive and some are a little gaudy, but I wouldn't cry foul.

TOO pretty. And the commercial was embarrassing.

My own immediate thoughts also.

I love the look of the Tele, but can't justify the cost.

I hate the edge on the Strat and the binding.

I think that it's a great alternative to a Gibson for Fender players. It's something for everyone in my opinion. Fender has a guitar for everyone and that's fine. Not my type but then, that's probably going to be a big hit for some and I think it's great. G&L does it and has for years.

i understand what it is, but why do a figured top on a Fender? i prefer the wood grain to come through, dont feel for the figured look.

maybe im just not select enough?

I wouldn't buy one even if they cost the same as an Am. Std. Truthfully, I think they are hideous and as far removed from a Telecaster as it could be.

The commercial had me checking the time to see how much longer it was going to go on.
Overly dramatic... blah!

"To commemorate the introduction of the series, 100 instruments of each model include a certificate of authenticity signed by Jeff Allen, head of U.S. production at Fender's Corona, Calif., manufacturing facility. Further, an aditional 50 of the first Fender Select instruments made are hand-numbered on the back of the headstock and include a certificate."

So, for some phony-baloney piece of paper you get the privilege of handing over a couple of thousand more dollars?

I'm sufficiently convinced that my guitar is "authentic", I really don't need pedigree papers for it.

More is said about the paper you get than how the thing actually sounds.
I was expecting the guy to plug the guitar in and rip into something -some sort of audio demonstration.
