Refinishing CV50 BSB question

Mine has four poorly matched pieces. Bought it sight unseen. I know... Anyway, I'd like to strip the body and paint it a solid color. I'm thinking Fiesta Red or Sea Foam Green. I know some people here have done this with excellent results. I'd like to know how you did it. Chemical or sandpaper? Pros and cons, etc. As to the painting part, I don't have a gun, so I would just spray can it. Any recommendations on brands, type of paint, etc. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Also meant to ask if its possible to just rough up the existing poly finish enough for the paint to stick or do you have to take it down to bare wood?

You dont have to strip it, just sand it till all the gloss is gone. If you want Fender colors try Reranch http://reranchstore.stores.yahoo.net/index.html.
Krylon and Rustoleum Painters Touch work well for hardware store bought paint.
Some more info http://reranch.com/101.htm
TBO it's alot of work, might be better off to sell it and buy one you like.

Thanks. Thats what I was hoping to hear. I figured it would be time consuming, but I'm using this guitar to experiment with that and electronics changes.

You can always use a heat gun to strip the banana peel thick poly finish off with a putty knife.

Just use some 320-400 grit sandpaper. Sand all expised areas. Id mask off all the shielded areas. Then just paint right over it use primer if you wish.

This works great and is a million times easier than stripping it. Since your painting over a smooth area it wotks great.

Yes just sand the finish until it has no gloss, makes a great base coat, level, flat

I've use Re ranch seafoam with great results
