eBay - a 52RI in Black?

Is this a real factory 52RI? Its in black and the seller claims its original though the case isn't. I know Fender produced a limited amount of Copper 52RIs but I wasn't aware of a black model. Looks cool if its original.

FYI, I'm not interested in it and I'm not related to the seller in any way. Well, okay, its my Grandmother's (just kidding)!

I'm gonna stick my neck out here, but I've never seen nor heard of a genuine Fender 52 re-issue in black.

I'm not sure either, but wasn't a black 52RI one of the prizes of the TDPRI fundraising raffle a couple of years ago? Paul would know.

I'm pretty certain they did make a limited amount of black
maybe in '97 or '98(?). Think there may have even been
a thread on here about that a couple years back.
Those are even rarer than the Copper ones.

black ?

hmmmm not impossible, but also not probable...my bet would be either a partscaster, or a refin.
my recently completed "sparklecaster" is '52 Ri Fender parts and specs, ie: '52Ri replacement neck, '52 vintage Pups etc....i'll never sell, BUT IF i listed it, i'd definitely add the disclaimer of partscaster, while touting the '52 specs....but others i know ( & i learned the hard way too)have no such scruples.....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we had one as a prize on the TDPRI giveaway a couple of years ago. 52 RI's did come in both Copper and Black.

Aha, my memory still works!

YES

The black 52RI's were made around 1997 and were distributed for sale in 1997, I saw them at Fender dealers in 1997.

You betcha

I had a MIA black '52 reissue (made in '97). It was an exceptional piece that I regretted selling.
It will be eventually replaced with one like it. (The tele that it helped pay for was exeptional also).

I had a black & white AV '52 RI. Model 10-1303, 1997.

Mine was kinda heavy and inert, and I greatly prefer my '05 10-0202 butterscotch version, with better pickups and squarer edges, and a bit lighter.

Sold though. It was $1100 Cdn. I think. I played it and found it really nice, though my Classic 50s is pretty much the same. I didnt notice a $600 deifference.

Did Fender originally offer black way back in '52? Cool looking guitars.

I believe that Black came before Blond. There were Copper examples too, hence that RI color. Like with the RIs, Blond is much more common.

I bought a real fender 52 tele in black from someone on ebay, they got it from a friend whos father had died and it was under the bed all the years still in the original case and to top it off it had never been played, the seller had 0 feedback and only would take a money order and they live somewhere overseas, I know that it is real even if he would not send me any more picts and not answer my emails. I think I sent him somewhere around $25,000 for it and I know it will be here any day now. I won this auction in july of 2003 and like I said it will be here soon. I think I here the UPS truck right now.

No I was wrong it was not the UPS truck, should be here soon .
