G&L Tribute ASAT Special, Semi-Hollow
One of these is for sale @ $500 in my area minimal wear.
Any one have thoughts on this - good price & player ? Looks like the pick-ups are not really shaped like the usual P-90s so my concern is that I can't change them out. Last edited by Bartholomew3; March 6th, 2012 at 02:09 PM. |

Great player, decent price. You might be able to find one a bit cheaper but this is still worth a look. You'll have a hard time finding a better sounding and constructed guitar at that price. I have the same model and nothing else sounds quite right to me.
If you intend to change the pickups, then don't bother with it. Those MFD (Magnetic Field Design) pickups are not P-90s, nor do they sound like P-90s, and they weren't meant to. They have a very unique sound all their own: AWESOME. |

True, a new ASAT Classic Tribute Semi Hollow has a MAP price of $699 but I'm not sure they are offering the ASAT Special in Semi Hollow anymore. As someone said the MFD pickups in the Special are not really P-90's but they are great pickups, especially in the neck position. They can sound like a little bit of everything from Strat to Tele to ES.

If you're not in love with these pups (I sure like them) don't buy it. Now, if it was $ 300 you could flip it if you never came to like it. When Guitar Cabin in Spartanburg went out of business, I had my shot at any or all of his ASAT Tribute Thinlines (Specials and Classics) for $ 400-425, as new. That was a while ago but the prices have not really changed. |
