Someone at some point in its life sanded the body a bit much and took too much off I guess leaving the body too thin causing the action to be low even witb the bridge all the way up. I spoke to Ed Reynolds and he is gonna fix that and maybe refret it. Its still playable but buzzes quite a bit.

I love it! It has a lively sparkling sound that screams vintage tele and should cut through a band like a razor. It will be my new main player.

Like I said it's not a collector and if it was I wouldn't want it. I'm a player not a collector and I want a guitar I don't hafta be a nervous wreck about changing something or taking it into a bar.

Oh please don't do that.... A '69 body shouldn't be messed with, she looks good blond.

I saw the Derailers in concert and fell in love with his 68 sparkle pictured here and I'm a huge Buck Owens / Don Rich fan. I haven't decided to do it just a possibility. Lol

If you are looking for possibilities to raise the saddles some more, you might want to change to thicker saddles with longer set screws. Like these for instance:

http://app4.websitetonight.com/proje...eelsaddle2.jpg

These saddles will give another 1-2 mm extra to play with. On my Tele the saddles are also really high but as long as the bridge PU can be set close enough I am liking this setup and feel. You can also shim the neck.

Thanks I'll try that!!!!! I put a shim in the pocket and it helped a lot. Just for poops n giggles I put a piece of paper folded in half under the bridge and the action is perfect so it won't take much more.

Congrats, glad you got it and it is cool that is being exchanged tween two buddies, kind of stays in the family that way.

Regarding the folded paper shim, from my days in the printing industry that is about a .08" shim (assuming standard weight copier type paper).

if it has already been repainted once then do whatever you like
you just don't want to mess with an original finish

Yeah its a refin. I like the color now ok but I don't love it. That's why I was thinking it would be a candidate for sparkles making it my ultimate dream guitar.

Look in the pickup routs for the original color. Refin to orginal, if it's an old refin leave it. Get a new body for your silver sparlke.

His guitar has already been refinished and sanded down some. Being a Don/Buck fan myself, a sparkle job would be pretty sweet, as long as you can back up that kind of flash!

Grats, played a 1968 Tele recently and it was pretty sweet! Looks like a cool guitar.

Congrats!! And, congrats on having a friend like that!
If you're going to refin it again, I would only do it in a color that was offered
in 1969. Just out of respect to the instrument.

To make it look authentic, you should get a pickguard that doesn't have the neck pickup mounting screws through the pickguard. Nice guitar--I have a '69 that I bought new and will never part with.

Thanks guys for the congrats. Did they do any sparkle finishes in 69? I know the derailers guitarist is a 68 model but I don't know if its original finish. If I do it will be something vintage looking. Champagne, silver, gold, something like that. However I have to wait on the action quite a bit and it plays great now without to refret. The low frets make it a little harder to bend notes but not bad.
