I see threads all the time on here saying "Show me your GREEN teles" or "show me your blackguards" or whatever. (look, here's one now.) Is this request different somehow?

In any event, I'll post a pic of mine later this weekend if I can get the camera working...

Seems like a perfectly valid request to me... I've never seen a pickguard made from a record, but it sounds cool, I'm looking forward to the pic of yours

I've seen those guards on ebay, seems like it would make for a very Elvisy 50's inspired look appropriate for the Esq/Tele. Also seems like those would be fragile guards to cut out.

Kinda wish I hadn't thrown out all those Bee Gee 45's!

Now to add "What record to use?" to the pile of decisions to make when building a Tele...

I bet you could find a decent scan of any record label you want, buy any old crappy record from a second hand store and just print a fake label out and put it over the original label.

That said, with some of the eagle eyes I've seen on guitar forums over the past ten years, I bet someone would notice!

no need to print a fake label. just find a repress on ebay. got mine for $0.99 and didn't have to cut up a vintage record.

You mean people don't have 78's and 33's anymore?

the other guitarist from Nirvana's early days had a tele style guitar with one of those 'record' pickguards. The only reason I know this is because when you do a negative of the album cover for Bleach, it becomes more obvious. Look very carefully.

I've never used a record for a pickguard.
But in the 60's I'd regularly smash old 45's and used them as picks.
