I'll make sure to post it when I get it cut and let you know how I cut it and beveled it...there is a good luthier in town I might take it to....I am very OCD and I want it to be perfect.....anyways...I'll post when it's done or when I get it cut at least

The zzzzip! of a pick sliding across those grooves is sending chills down my spine just thinking about it. Aesthetically pretty neat though.

anything special to look for in a dremel tool? or will one of those 20 dollar 80 piece kits work fine for something of this level?

Thanks for this thread.

I stopped by a second-hand store today, grabbed some vintage albums. Screw "represses", bins are full of the real deal. 50 cents each.

Traced my guard with a razor-knife. Then cut out the tracing with regular household scissors. Did a little cleanup with some sandpaper. Drilled the holes with a pocketknife. Sprayed a couple of coats of clear lacquer on the paper label.

Neck pickup cutout... score the tracing deeply. When you can see the scoring on the other side, score from opposite side. Dress the curve up with sandpaper wrapped around a Sharpie.

Maybe an hour and a half.

I hope that's not the original white vinyl pressing from 1989 because I'm thinking that'd be worth some money... Assuming it's the reissue that's going to be awesome. this thread has definitely given me a great idea

Not only a repress, but a really scratched up repress and only disc one (no disc two) with no album art of any kind. That's why it was only a dollar.

Yeah, thanks guys..it's given me a few ideas as well
I was thinking you could cut up an old 12" laserdisc if you wanted that effect
No label...but the laser grooves might look cool...CD's are too small

what's cool to me, and "mojo-y" is the fact that there's music -notes, sounds, encoded in those grooves, attached to your guitar. it's one thing to have a sticker, or something that looks like a record, but there's actually MUSIC hidden in there...

Also now I'm thinkin about using one of those flexible records that used to come with magazines as a glue-on acoustic pickguard. Easier to cut, that's fo sho.

I think the guard looks great and I still plan on using an Albert King record to do the same thing myself one of these days.

That being said, that guitar looks even better naked (even with the routing).

Oh yeah. One of my top five albums. Very cool. I have two exile records. One of them is pretty much unplayable, so I think I need to recycle it into my Squier CV.

Ha -- that was my first thought too! Glad to hear it wasn't a huge loss.

That is friggin' AWESOME. I'm sure it will turn out great, but do be sure to post pics.

Threads like this just remind me how uncreative I am. I would never think to do something that awesome

This is an awesome idea! I was bummed since I can't get a clear lp for my tele pickguard, but I've been trying to come up with a new pickguard for my squier 51. The possiblity of a repress is even better!

**edit** It looks like this technique is restricted to teles. A 12" is just a little too small for a strat...and a LOT too small for the '51.

However, a lacquered 12" album cover would fit both strat and 51.

Okay, here's mine--not great photos, but you'll get the idea. The torn bits are from painter's tape when doing the cutting and sanding...oh well.

I thought about using a picture disc, but the only one I have is Linda Rondstadt's "Living in the USA" and I'm not even sure where it came from...
