Three Holes under MIM pickguard?
Hey does anybody know why there are three (one slightly larger, two the same size), small round holes to the left of the large pickup cavity on the body of my MIM standard? They are about 1/8th of an inch deep and seem to have no purpose whatsovever.
Any ideas? Crop circles? Thanks.

This has been discussed before and most think they are CNC guides but they are change holders.

man, some funny replies....
perhaps something to do with the painting process - ie where they get suspended from? who knows.Although Id say cnc machine is a more likely candidate (if cnc machine can me a euphamism for aliens)

Well, the search engine works, but there were no definitive answers in that thread...

Well, I thought that the MIM bodies and necks were made in California and then shipped to Mexico for finish and assembly. If this is the case, they are not CNC guide points ( more likely those are neck and or bridge holes ) but just a way to identify "cheaper" MIM bodies from the hmmm-hmmm... "higher quality" ( read: more expensive ) USA bodies.

But the question's come up a few times here and no one's ever given an answer more definitive than that. |

Do the "American" bodies made in California have extra holes in them? If not, I can't see how they'd be for indexing... I also don't think Fender would admit that there is that little difference between bodies even if it is true. Why 3 holes? Ummm... to makeit too time consuming to fill and fake the grain? Dunno, but they do stamp bodies of "American" models so that they can be ID'd ... like the RI and "replacement" parts. Maybe someone at Fender figured three holes will show up better on even the most horrible E-bay photo.
