James Burton at eBay; is this a good deal??
...I have no affiliation with this guy, but he lives within an hour of me and was considering going up there and buying.
I'm surprised, even his buy-it-now price seems reasonable to me, and it's only at $160 or so as I type this. Aren't these supposed to be pretty decent guitars? Looks like a wee bit heavy at 8 lbs, but still... Anyone with advice/opinions, feel free to post... -Eric

I thought Burton's had 3 PU's?
E-Man:
I think the price looks good on this Tele, but I think there's one too few pickups. Burton Tele's had 3, didn't they? Am I missing a model of his that had only 2? Other than that, it's a nice guitar and certainly worth the money. I like the neck a lot. TC. Emmitt O.

It's a good deal only if you can live with the pickups.
I'd certainly want to change the pickups, and if you add the cost of new pickups and a pickguard (or a five-way switch, if you want a neck humbucker) to the Buy It Now price, you'd have too much invested. These are great guitars, but I would wait to find one in unmolested condition.
You could bid up to $250 or so, but I'm sure that his reserve is higher. |

The Neck!
One thing about these JB Standards - the neck is awesome! I found a Burton neck for my '52 RI project, and it is the best Tele neck I've played. This guitar, at 8 lbs., is a bit heavy for me, but not necessarily too heavy. The guitar looks good, and might be a great platform for some experimenting with pickups.

I do play nearly all rock/rock 'n roll for whatever that's worth. I use gain a lot (and sometimes, use a LOT of gain) :) Actually, I think his reserve might be near what you say. His 'buy it now' is $315 and INCLUDES shipping; I'd be able to pick it up, so he may go $250-$275 on it. If the p'ups suited my tastes/style, seems like it's potentially a good deal. -Eric

Nothing wrong at all.
It's simply a matter of taste. Personally, I have no experience with the pickups but I would probably want something that would not be quite so "hot". You might like the pickups, so if you get it for $315 including shipping it could be a deal for you, while it wouldn't be a good deal for me.[/i]
